Yeah, part of me is just grateful for the attempt, like the short-lived "Sea Oak" series on Amazon (which was way too critical of commercial culture to ever get legs, if you ask me).

They also don't quite lean into how disturbing the story is. I think for obvious, entertainment-oriented reasons, but the story is mainly about technology leading to a loss of self, which is only more prescient nowadays. A great time to have the villain "win," for instance.

The ending was way too much of a copout. That's probably my biggest criticism. But that's what Hollywood likes to do.

Yeah, it's extremely disgraceful and corrupt everywhere. It's exhausting trying to be a decent person while our leaders offer us the worst example to follow.

Update: Best-case scenario, he wanted to somehow get Mamdani to seem in league with him and then bungled that terribly. But that's assuming he has any idea what he's even doing at this point, which it's reasonable to question. I wish Mamdani had more forcefully stated he's a fascist, though.
