I think it goes beyond inflation. Some things changed permanently after COVID and some people wanted the world to be 2019 again for more than prices.

It's kind of like regulation is a tool in the tool box. It works great for some things but poorly for others. You don't want to use a hammer when you need a saw.

A couple things going on here:
1. MAGA has always been a rejection of modernity but has come to encompass rejections of modernity in all forms. Ultimately the granola thing is a rejection of modernity.
2. Granola aligned left environmentally but a lot were far from "woke" in their social views.

My guess is COVID era migration booms in these states led to a surge in supply growth that overshot demand as interest rates rose and the party stopped. Colorado issued the most building permits in its history in 2021 when most states hit that stat in the 2000s.

He's the reverse Kathy Hochul. She got vastly better political instincts during Trump 2, his instincts are disastrously worse.

It seems to me like this administration would be wise not to explore the extent to which a pardon could be reversed. Could be a road they regret going down three years from now....

I feel like aesthetics are very important to the modern right at the expense of depth. The whole "dress nice at the airport" is a recent example. It explains how they can take songs that sound patriotic but are clearly criticisms of the US and adopt them as right wing people rally songs.

I wouldn't be surprised if Indiana is still 7R-2D even if they redistrict.

If Dems are ever going to be competitive in Florida again, we have to turn southeast Florida from light red/purple back to blue. Seems like a good investment to start building our brand.

I'm following your thinking but I think the one weakness is that these prediction markets can also find themselves within one or two information bubbles.

At this point I just assume Florida is going to be the red version of Minnesota in 1984. Despite their lean, if we flipped every other state blue, they would still be red by a couple of points.

My guess is that they've all committed so many crimes that they know the first to defect is going to get thrown under the bus hard. There's going to be a sacrificial lamb at some point and they don't want to be it.

It's funny to compare the coverage of Trump vs. Mamdani. With Trump it was: "He's not actually going to do the unpopular, stupid, and dangerous things he talks about all of the time, lol." With Mamdani it's "Every thing he has ever said will happen and New York will collapse into a heap of ashes."

They were able to command higher prices for similar goods because of their image. They gave that up to kiss the ass of an administration with a 39% approval rating one year in. How do they ever get their customer base back?
