My 19yo is studying to be a machinist and she made these cool knobs to go on the ends of a handle on a piece of equipment in the machine shop. She is a genius and I adore her.

When you’re 46 but you can still wheedle your older sister and brother into playing on the swings with you (from September 2023)

My 9yo friend in Seattle made a Flareon out of modeling clay and sent it to me via his mom who just came to visit. I made a flower crown Glaceon to send back. (Both were inspired by the all-important question, what’s your favorite eeveelution?)

A Carolina mantis used my outdoor chair as a nursery! This egg case will hatch in the spring. 🌱

A good day for visiting the local cemetery.

Feeling like hot garbage so I’m amusing myself by looking for homes for the native persimmon trees I started from seed last fall. It’s working! I have two people wanting two seedlings each and I feel so happy about my neighbors’ future food security and the beauty of free stuff. 🌱

This bird is so happy. His favorite human is home for the weekend and can help him preen the pin feathers on his head that he can’t reach by himself. (Photo by my mother-in-law.)

My clematis is reblooming! Not as vibrant as it was in the spring, but I’ll take it. 🌱

And finally, Muppet, Gandalf’s frenemy. Muppet came to us from a house where one of the kids was, um, not being gentle with him. He is very skittish and not very smart, but his flying has improved a lot since Gandalf came to live here bec she’s a master flyer.

This is Gandalf, our Grey Wanderer, so named because I captured her on the sidewalk after she got loose from her previous home. She is alarmed that I’m standing so close.

Mango says thank you and he would like you to come visit him and he will dance with you and snuggle against your neck but also bite the shit out of your fingers if he gets the chance

No big deal, just riding around in the passenger seat of my mom’s car with several asparagus plants that we impulse bought in my lap 🌱

Another praying mantis. Its abdomen is swollen, so maybe it’s about to lay eggs? I’ll just take a shot from this other—OH NO BUMBLEBEE LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU 🌱

Here’s my Mango. He’s a conure. He laid a couple eggs this summer, shocking us all, but my daughter decided he’s transmasc so we’re still using he/him pronouns in spite of the eggs 😂

Ooh, conifers. I have exactly zero. Would like to find a native on that stays small.

For fun, here’s a pic of my front bed with the dogwood slowly changing color.

Throwback to 2021. This mofo was eating bumblebees like popcorn as they came to gather pollen from the sunflower 🌱
