Important question: Why is Clive naked? Are we supposed to assume that Ifrit burned all his clothes off, even though no other Eikon has done that.

Or did Cid strip Clive before chaining him up, just for fun?

No FF16, you can't just say "Some Time Later" and cut to a battle between two armies with no context.

They just wanted to show a cool Odin/Bahamut fight, I guess?

As much as Benedikta has been an over-acted, ridiculous villain so far, I feel like she has the potential to go through an interesting arc from here, if she's not dead.

They show enough here that she could die as an early game villain, but I'd still bet on her surviving.

Ok, the Ifrit reveal didn't take too long. They faked me out a little, but I'm glad to see Clive's power isn't as crazy as stealing entire Eikons.
Back to assuming the other fire Dominant is Joshua.

I like the Ifrit design, he's like a more expressive Godzilla. #VA_FF16

So my first thought was that this is Joshua, who survived somehow, and Clive saw a weird vision of him in the past.

But now, thinking it could really be Ifrit's Dominant, given Clive's power. Appreciating the intrigue.

Clive's classic protagonist powers of stealing other Dominant powers is an interesting move. Now I'm reconsidering whether he is Ifrit's Dominant or was made to borrow those powers.

Hard to get invested in this relationship, since Benedikta is such an over the top theatrical villain. #VA_FF16

Starting my third session with the reveal that Cid's name is actually Cidolfus. I cant think of a worse option. #VA_FF16

The boys have arrived.

This set-up of a band of freedom fighters freeing slaves and building up a central base doesn't quite strike me as a usual FF plot (fits some other JRPGs though), so I assume this part won't last too long.

Wow, this scene is almost a shot for shot remake of Eva Unit 01 going berserk and almost killing Toji. Definitely intentional.

So considering that, we're definitely supposed to know that Clive is Ifrit's Dominant right? That's not supposed to be a twist?

RIP Hugo.

Noooo. She'd better be fine and come back later with a cool eyepatch

Giving your friend the "Isn't it cool how we're betraying our lord" smirk.

Just can't have a trustworthy second in command in a fantasy setting.

Oh that's fun, I get to play as Hugo. I mean Joshua. #VA_FF16

Looks like fun. Here's 20 of the games I'm planning to play next year. Random sample of my longer list.

Assumed these two guys would be Biggs and Wedge. Guess they're saving those names.

Combat seems fine so far, basic dodge/parry action stuff in this first area. Boss took a little while to whittle down but not ridiculous. #VA_FF16

Damn, Clive's mum is the worst. Channeling the "My son didn't become a successful doctor so I've disowned him" energy #VA_FF16

Oh shit, his brother is the kid from A Plague Tale. That bodes well.

He's tripping so many death flags, but I guess since he's Phoenix he might just come back. #VA_FF16

Opening sequence was pretty cool. Love starting with a kaiju battle, and the music in this sequence is great as different summons come out. #VA_FF16

Ok, time to dive into Final Fantasy XVI for the first time. Dont know too much beyond the name Clive.

Going to use #VA_FF16 for the playthrough.

Diving a bit deeper as I get close to the NG+ endings.

I like how they set up Iori and Saber as initially similar - born into violent times, and both appear to be seeking peace.

But Iori is drawn to the mastery of the sword, and seeks victory over the violent era which he was born into. #FSR

Since I'm planning to start FF16 tomorrow, thought it would be fun to make a personal tierlist of the other single-player FF games (and annoy people)
November 30, 2025 at 5:42 AM
Ok, this is cool. Seems like we're delving deeper into Iori's character and motivations in NG+.
Possible trying to emulate the way Fate Stay Night slowly built up its characters over the different routes? I'm here for it. #FSR

I like that the NG+ playthrough adds a bunch of Digressions for the other Servants, but then this one just straight up revealed Assassin's identity like I should already know it. A bit disappointed in that. #FSR

Honestly the first ending has left me very underwhelmed. The Rider reveals felt like I was missing a reason to care about this character. And the final chapter (Flames of Resentment) was very generic.

Hoping for more from the other endings #FSR

Love a good joke ending. The fight with Gilgamesh when you dont take his offer was pretty rough though. #FSR
