I like making low-fidelity first person games. I use #OpenTK, #Unity #Godot and #Raylib
explore a mechanic once it's in the engine. And I believe Terraria does this well too by really squeezing out every single possible idea and possibility within its game world and ruleset

awkward middle ground where they only want to add things with a specific purpose, but they never fully explore any idea. They add one insulated item/mechanic and it is never touched on ever again. That's something I wanna try and avoid when working with my game, try and consider how I can fully

I would argue that it's not really the feature count that leads to the feeling of bloat but the way the game works on a fundamental level. A game like Terraria with thousands of items doesn't really feel bloated because of the sheer mechanical variety of everything. I think minecraft is in this

Dreamsettler getting cancelled was sad for me. Had been looking forward to that for years

People have so many preconceptions about block games, its crazy. Mostly harmless but its an interesting insight into how i think people like to defer to things that already exist rather than accepting something new

People would get a warning about a mod using non-sandboxed code. That way it could be a player choice thing rather than something I enforce.

Every time i mention wanting to do modding support through a sandboxed scripting language all the modders get annoyed at me :P
People just really want to be able to mod EVERYTHING even if there isn't an API for it. I think the plan for me is to support both sandboxed and non sandboxed, and

Damn, that is fascinating. The way i've been dealing with modding in my game is people are allowed to do whatever they want as long as its distributed as patches and not the entire source code. Modding is awesome and i wanna foster it :)

Is the source for this the word of notch blog? its kind of funny that he was so against modding and the game became one of the most modded games in the world

Here's some still images since the video has a lot of outdated footage. I am developing the game so fast that a trailer i edited a month ago is now super out of date already 😅

Making your own engine for this is fun too, I went crazy a few weeks ago trying to fix a bug that only affected intel igpus from 2014. But I feel like it is well worth it. I find so much joy in people being able to run the game on whatever computer they have.

I've been trying my hardest to get my game to run on low end hardware, old hardware, or no dedicated gpu for this exact reason. I feel like a game running well on older machines is such a selling point now when most AAA games require the cutting edge to even run at all now.

It's a possibility, I've been kind of tired of editing videos for each update recently, I skipped a video for 0.10 completely. I would like to, its just time consuming and something that its hard to convince myself to work on

I know this is unsolicited advice but what helped me get my game out there a little bit was emailing youtubers in my target audience. Asking youtubers to play the game is the #1 best marketing tool for indies in my opinion.

Turns out the key to making a game is to just wake up one day, start making it, and dont stop making it :P
