Context: There was a policy change under Trump. Since 2011, ICE didn't do enforcement operations in "sensitive locations." Those would be schools, hospitals, and houses of worship. It wasn't encoded in law, but it was the normative practice for a long time. More here:

I picked a book cover from the 5 designs the OUP design team sent. The friends I showed it to had all sorts of (conflicting) opinions on them.

In the end though, I'm the one who has to stand in front of it for an hour giving talks. That freaking 16 year book project is becoming more real.

I mean, no one is going to read or not read the book because of the cover, right? Unless the cover is totally strange, which it is not.

We’ll also hand out hundreds of whistles (for free!) in heavily immigrant communities this week.

Of all my posts, this is the one that I wish would be shared widely. I hope people will donate to Bryan's legal defense, but even if you don't, it's important to be aware of the human rights horrors that are going on around us on a daily basis.
Please help Bryan, a decent and hardworking person who was just kidnapped off the street in DC. He has been in this country since he was a child. He has a business and a family. He does not deserve such shameful cruelty. Please share.

I spent October traveling to schools throughout the South talking to students about American history. What I found were young people who understand we can tell a story that includes both the positive and the negative. As one 8th grader in Memphis said, “Doesn’t seem that hard, just say both things.”

There have been at least 154 cases in which federal district courts have issued preliminary relief against a Trump administration policy.

Those rulings have come from 121 *different* judges appointed by seven presidents (including 15 appointed by Trump) sitting in 29 district courts in 10 circuits:
