I've been working on more enemy sprites but since art is my biggest weakness it's been quite a struggle.
This is the result of a lot of iteration and frustration and I'm not happy with it, BUT it's still something!
The struggle is part of the process!

Turns out the old upgrade system doesn't work. I'm currently rewriting it, which is mostly backend work.
I don't have much to show, but check this out!

Oh yeah, btw: Use Godots build in UI controls. They are really good! Don't try to roll your own, lmao.

Done with the prototype upgrade screen. I'm only going to show 3 revolver upgrades, though. I will not spoil the final revolver upgrade or any of the other weapon upgrades.

I've been really struggling to come up with a good looking and well functioning upgrade screen.
So now I've decided to just come up with a concept today, make it work tomorrow and look good later.

Got distracted by an idea for enemy health bars. They disappear after the enemy has not been hit for at least 6 seconds.
I feel like adding this information component to the combat could make it more interesting.

I'm working on the upgrade system and realized that it's going to take a while.

I've decided to add reloading again, after all. I feel like it adds tension to the combat. It's quick 'n painless, especially with upgrades! Which I'm going to work on next.

Weapon spinning is still in the game, BUT it will be up to ya'll to find out where! 😎

Feeling a bit bored implementing combat, BUT I came up with a new enemy anyway. Still not sure how to balance the bug/lizard aesthetic, but that's a job for future me.
Might work on upgrades next, have some variety - the spice of game dev!

I have added yet another enemy! Graphics are a bit rough, because I want to focus on getting the combat system done, so I can balance it.
Combat is the highest priority task right now and I gotta resist feature creeeep...!

I gave bullets a fixed life time, increased bullet damage and BOOM: combat is a lot more interesting already. Just because of these two changes!
Now I gotta find a way to reward aggressive players with loot.
Firing speed can be upgraded later with gold!

I have created a rather rough sketch of a new enemy. You can shoot its legs off, no problem. It's quite resilient!

Side note: I never expected how much work animation would be... wow! It's intense but also quite enjoyable and rewarding. I like it!

I'm going to tackle combat next, so I'm going to need enemies. I feel like I'm way out of my depth doing animation, but so far it's been quite rewarding!

Yesterday I was kinda scared of finishing the fly logic, because I felt like I bit off way more than I can chew (which I did), but I decided to chomp down hard and this is the product of my labor!
I'll fine tune it later. Right now it's just awesome to see!😎

The flies behavior is not quite what I want it to be just yet and its projectile is way too hard to see, but wow... I feel like this is slowly starting to become an actual game! Feels great! 💪

I gave the merchant a humble shed, which he promptly locks down as soon as bullets hit it.

I also added cacti giving gold bars as loot (it will be 50/50 enemy/gold), but something didn't quite go right.
I might add this as a secret/easter egg.

I've decided against reloading. Instead you can now spin your gun and turn a rifle or machine gun basically into a shotgun. Combat is going to be fast and frantic. You need at least something to defend yourself against all the evil monsters are trying to eat you, no?!

I overhauled the loot system. It's now way easier to add new items and weapons.
When you pick up a new weapon, your current one gets dropped on the ground, so you can pick it up later.

Also: Gold! Because upgrade merchants need to live too!
