Did this person forget that Golding literally fought in WWII? He was quoted as saying this.

The entire novel is an allegory for that: man’s capacity for evil when stripped of the illusions of civility. Savagery is born from the same societies that call themselves civilized.

Saw this review for the graphic novel of "Lord of the Flies."

...and had to laugh. It was written about British choir schoolboys in a Christian imperial culture to show that the capacity for “savagery” isn’t in some distant other.

It’s in the people we’re taught to see as "innocent" & "civilized."

Using "The Arrival" to really drive home the idea of the American Dream before we dive into "The Great Gatsby" and talk about how that dream feels obsolete now.

If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend "The Arrival" by Shaun Tan...its imagery is stunning.

I always sit down to write, but before I know it, a cat is in my lap.

Please don’t make me make this decision

Ever since my fish Marcellus died 2 years ago, his large ass tank is empty. I got rid of all the live plants and everything bc of a snail infestation that I couldn’t figure out 😭

I’m want to start it up again ??? I think I would start with the plants first for a month or two to get them going.

Hey….what’s up????

Took a break because I realized I was reading way too deeply into things on here and taking stuff super personally.

Feeling a little more grounded now and just want this to be a silly place again.

Anyway, here’s a picture of Soap and Merlin.

If you could swap voices with anyone (real or fake), who?

Currently reading "The Dictionary of Lost Words" & WOW!

It’s historical fiction about the making of the Oxford English Dictionary, told through the eyes of a young woman who realizes that words tied to women’s lives & everyday people are being left out, so she starts collecting them herself.

Omfg

So I’m grading this narrative paper from a student, and we have this program we use so we can watch them write it.

I’m guessing they were using text to speech, and perhaps a pet named Larry? was doing something they should not have been doing.

Only spooky thing I’ve seen this late at the school is a case of potential AI use for a narrative.

Yeah, I know how redundant that is.

This week we meet… @kskat.and.cat !!!

What’s your irrational fear?
- Definitely butterflies (but also just bugs in general.

If you had to live inside a board game, which one?
- It would be the 2002 version of Candy Land.

My Friends by Fredrik Backman

Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Review: Love Backman’s heart, but this one lost me. It almost felt meandering, quiet, and kind of… nothing?

So much heart, so little happening.
