This is why hate speech laws are bad, btw. Because people like this get to decide what speech is illegal.

A key challenge for BLS is adequate funding for data collection and modernization. During my tenure I tried to identify the causes. One person told me, ‘your problem is that while BLS has no enemies you also have no friends’ meaning no powerful interest groups advocating for economic data.
Every business day, big capitalist institutions depend on having access to unbiased economic statistics. It's time for them to step up and help protect the B.L.S. and other statistical agencies from Trump's encroachments.

Big Business and Wall Street Need to Stand Up for Honest Data
In nominating an inexperienced MAGA partisan for commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Donald Trump is chipping away at an essential foundation of the American economy.

This "tariffs are sometimes good" nonsense is literally the worst possible Democratic message.

Your political opponent literally blows up the global economy and your response is "maybe he has a point." Astounding malpractice.
For today's Democratic Daily Download: meet @deluzio.house.gov.

He explains how Trump's trade policy has been a chaotic mess.

We're offering hardworking Americans real policies to strengthen their families and communities—not fake populism to distract from tax giveaways to huge corporations.

My Trade Secrets response to the tariffs.

Bad news: these tariffs cd be worse than the 1930s & the Republicans are inflicting their deep pathology on the world.

Good news: this is as yet a US trade war, not a world trade war. Others can resist following Trump's crazy road.

Sending a Russian dissent back to Russia to be tortured and/or killed perfectly encapsulates this loathsome administration’s lack of American values.
Kseniia Petrova, a Russian scientist at Harvard Medical School, was detained at Logan Airport after returning from France and sent to an ICE detention in Louisiana, The Insider reports.

A big critic of Putin and the war in Ukraine, she may now be deported to Russia.

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

The detention of Mahmoud Khalil puts all Americans fundamental rights at risk. And if you can’t see that because you oppose his politics, well that’s exactly the reaction Trump and his cronies are counting on. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
Mahmoud Khalil’s Detention Is a Trial Run
The pro-Palestine student was arrested without due process for exercising his right to free speech. He will not be the last.

Please note that rogue countries, like China, actively monitor and harass dissidents here. This is a trial balloon. If this is OK, there is nothing stopping the Trump admin from handing over “troublemakers” to countries who are “willing to make a deal”
NEW: White House says the arrest and deportation of student activist & legal US resident, Mahmoud Khalil, is a blueprint for more.

The final line here is chilling. The White House specifically says Khalil was not breaking the law.

No evidence, no due process, no crime. He was just disappeared.
