Mate, that's bonkers. Give me some nice tarmac. Hell, I'd ride bulldust before I'd ride ice.

Thanks, mate. Yep, know what you mean about that hour-two “drop-in” moment. It’s when the noise dies off and you actually start riding in the world instead of skimming across the top of it. And the way you travel is how I like to travel. We're off again in a few weeks...on bikes as usual.

I get that. I think I might be in the minority in wearing earplugs. And it would certainly make it more in the moment, but...musician...can't afford too much tinnitus. 😮

Yeah, smell is really interesting. It's the only sense to bypass the thalamus, going straight olfactory bulb to the limbic system to emotion/memory. I remember getting off the plane in Delhi or Bangkok or somewhere and having the smells bring back memories of past trips. :)

I get that, mate. Temperature drops in a valley or a wooded area, or rises on a plane or open country.

The more I think about this, the more a video on the role of senses in motorcycling appears interesting.

No, no. I just find it's a little windy at that stage and overwhelms my earplugs.

I do wear a full face but often ride visor up (with glasses). Except above 80kph of course.

Weird. Maybe I butt-deleted it? I can't imagine that bluesky would have screwed that up.

My first bike on returning to riding was a 1994 virago 250. Lovely little bike. Saw one the other day for sale and ... was tempted. 😀
December 7, 2025 at 9:21 PM
Oh darn. Sorry it didn't work for you mate. It still does for me, but it's mostly on Dalma's bike

Still the smell of burnt timber in the air, but the firies have all packed up and helicopters have stopped flying across.

Saturday I rode home 350km in the heat (started at 5am) and by 5pm, we were locked down. Crazy day.

Hope your summer over there is more chill. Ours too for that matter. 🤞

Hi Sarah. Many thanks for that. Super appreciate you reposting it, that you liked it, and that you responded on Yt. ❤️

It was a little tense that one. There were fires nearby as I was editing it. One ended up 300m away and we were told to shelter in place. All good now though. :)

I tend to overanalyse. Obviously. 😀
December 7, 2025 at 8:45 AM
We've been downgraded to watch and act. Helicopters now going across every five minutes rather than every 20 seconds.
December 6, 2025 at 7:47 AM
Actually, we went from everything's ok to stay inside and shelter, which is the highest warning. Lots of smoke and helicopters, and the occasional ash, but we can see blue sky.

Oh brain was fried years ago marking undergraduates.

The suit is mostly light coloured, except for the blue and really well vented. I only started to feel the heat at 36. But you cope.
December 6, 2025 at 12:09 AM
Should look into this. I have a flip top .
December 5, 2025 at 11:50 PM
I did. Stopping every hour to drink water. :)
