Finally got a prototype luster fired a year later & it feels good! Yeah, it’s ugly (first time working with porcelain & first time water etching), but there’s an @oshpark.bsky.social circuit board I designed in there & it feels good to realize my vision of conductive glaze as a switch.

I had to play an everyday object like a musical instrument for my Rhythm Training class and of course I had to make it about pottery and play my wheel. I had to stitch in some throwing so it felt slightly less febrile.

Progress on my first attempt at a butter keeper! I had never thrown a knob on top of something after trimming it before and it took a couple of tries.

Made this goofy lil bud vase to test translucency with shino on this porcelain and it really comes alive when you shine a light thru it. Time for some mad scientist things!

I made a soda ash wash and I absolutely love how it turned out on this test tile! I hope the effect will look as beautiful on different texture.

A friend of mine who has been coming over to learn to throw on my wheel wants to make a French butter crock. I am vegan and have never felt a need for one in my kitchen, so I’ve never tried it before. Today I threw these in an attempt to teach myself to make one before coaching him.

SLIP FOR MOCHA DIFFUSION (A) Cone 04-12 Oxidation or Reduction Feldspar ... 5 % Ball Clay ... 75 % Kaolin ... 10 % Silica … 10 % 100 % The thickness should be similar to room-temper-ature motor oil. A liquefied porcelain clay slip usually will not work well since a porcelain body typically contains a maximum of 50% plastic clay material, and the rest is non-plastic fluxes and fillers, such as feldspars and silica.
