Sometimes the ideas come in like a bolt of lightning and get made just as quickly. I ordered some NFC stickers without a solid idea for a game. Last night when they arrived I quickly ideated and put together Artifact Hunt, with cards and an app (PWA). The verdict is that it's fun! 🧵 ✂️🎲🎲✂️
In progress game of Artifact Hunt, a hybrid board game and app game. There is a 4 by 4 grid of cards, labelled 1 through 16 in the center. To the left and right sides of the grids, there are hands of cards. The left hand of cards shows a bone, a pottery, and a ring. The right hand of cards are flipped upside down showing their NFC tags on the card backs. There is a phone above the grid, supported on either end so it's lifted off the table, allowing players to scan cards on the back. On the phone an app for Artifact Hunt is up, showing that one of the players just uncovered a bone artifact.

Played Mystic Vale today and it was awesome. Lost by a single point! I imagine it was a lot of work to design and playtest that game given the nature of the sleeves. Also got to playtest my scrapyard game again!

Had a successful play test of Oops! All Dice! last night. My wife handily beat me 10 to 8 and declared the game as fun. Next I need to make some digital images of the game and get this entered in the cereal box jam. 🎲✂️✂️🎲
At the bottom left, a game board of a 3x3 grid is full of color tokens with dice atop them. Surrounding the 3x3 grid are "cereal bowl" sides with various scoring conditions on them relating to the dice and colors. To the right of the bowl there are two star tokens. At the top middle, there are leftover pairings of color tokens and dice. At the right, there is a pile of color tokens and a pile of star tokens.

🎲✂️ It amazes me how quickly you discover the nature of your game when play testing. Up to that point, the game has just existed in your head or in some documents. By trying it out, you find out all the assumptions you had, even unconscious ones, weren't quite right.
