IDK next game someone recommends me that doesn't have difficulty select and gets that frustrating? I'm refunding it and watching a let's play if I care enough. I'm so tired of this dumbassery.

Like, I know a bajillion hard games that have easy/harder modes; you're not saving a game's essence by excluding those. At best you're just making people fed up with that shit migrate to a let's play and/or never play at all.

I do not want people to force themselves through a fucking bullshit final boss just for the sake of "beating it" because there's no joy in winning like that. Some people are going to hate those fights and win through attrition/luck and it won't be worth anyone's time.

With metroidvanias"this area is too hard explore and come back later" is VERY valid, especially for Silksong (looking at you Last Judge). There are definitely some final boss moments that there *is* no outlet like that and you can 100% upgrade Hornet and still find it too hard.

I think it's also the case that video game consumers don't think as much about the artists who create the work they enjoy. It's an issue in all forms of media, but it's hard to explain to people that the 'franchise' they enjoy isn't good because of the IP, but because of the creators.

"Ignore what the game tells you and all its clear intentions and assume it was a trick to misdirect you from the REAL intended truth, that you can only find by being told by someone on twitch or youtube who is just making things up" lines up pretty accurately with how people treat the lore too
