I work in library automation and like to think about words. I sometimes make things out of plastic, wood, or yarn.

He/him/his
The climactic scene in How the Grinch Stole Christmas on the top of Mt. Crumpet seems very different if you imagine it is all taking place on a speck of dust.

Maybe people can pay their health insurance premia by not buying 4000 pencils each month.

37 pencils cost less than a Big Mac meal.

Ok. So I guess Ethan Hawke said it. bsky.app/profile/theg...
“I am so bored by AI. One of the things I love about the theatre is AI can’t do it.”

Ethan Hawke is a dude 👌🏻

I have found uses for VL models. Handwriting recognition works well, and I like how they will reformat snapshots of recipes as Markdown for me to put in a digital notebook. But those are very mundane tasks.

I feel about AI sort of like I feel about those cheap RC cars that they sold at toy stores in the 90s. Fun to play with for like a week, but it loses its luster quickly.

Some people are really into it, and thats fine, but I just can’t get excited about it.

To be fair to him, I don’t think I could explain in detail what the Secretary of Transportation is supposed to do. I am not, however, the Secretary of Transportation.

I honestly wonder if Duffy knows what his job is. He seems to think it’s all about changing the behavior of air travelers.

Battle Hymn is, for me, a member of a class of spiritual songs that also includes Blake’s Jerusalem and Let There Be Peace on Earth. I’m not sure they are orthodox, and we probably shouldn’t sing them in church, but they present a compelling account of the hope of the world to come.

I feel kind of the same way as the hymnal editors, tbh. I don’t really like the idea of the church as an army, but I’m okay with a description of literal soldiers having a mystical vision of Christ. I’m not really confident that this distinction is theologically sound, but I like Battle Hymn.

It is kind of unsettling how much student writing fails to clear the “Can I understand what this sentence means?” bar.

That was my thought, too. The paper didn’t really respond to the prompt, (which is linked in the thread), so it’s still a fail, but the prose itself is clear enough to understand and it does make an argument, however weakly. It’s not *good,* but it could get a C on a different assignment.

I feel like Weber anticipated any critiques like this by including a whole chapter that’s basically: “Lutheranism kind of fits my model, but not really, so I’m going to ignore them for the rest of the book.”

I am ambivalent about scouting, but the support that he is planning to remove is basically making sure kids at jamboree are safe and allowing troops to meet on base. Who objects to this? I have never once heard anyone complain about this even in the worst culture war fever swamps.

Sour cream also goes well with pickled herring, FWIW.

It adds just a little bit of acid, but not too much to mask the other flavors. I wouldn’t do it with lemon meringue, but for things like pumpkin pie that don’t already have a sour component, it’s fantastic.
