For sure. But I see these people as early adopters - the masses are just behind them, they just don't know it yet. It's changing super fast here because we have so much solar - some places can now get 4 hours free usage daily because we just have too much on the grid. It's amazing

Automation and better software will remove the need for that (I have a mate doing a startup to do exactly that) but in the meantime there's a surprising amount of people that spend a lot of time looking at their phones to check the (near) real time data / pricing

FWIW prices in Australia update on a 5 minute basis. I know a bunch of energy nerds (and regular nerds) that check it hourly around certain time bands (eg in peka evening hours when prices are high) to optimise selling energy from batteries back into grid.

I'm old enough to remember 5 years ago when we put a half assed effort into masking and hand washing and suddenly eradicated all flu deaths in Australia for a whole year or more

Just insane how politicians are terrified of upsetting a few assholes who don't believe in germ theory of disease

ORCL has $19bn of cash and equivalents. They issued $18bn of corporate bonds last quarter and burned $10bn of cash. So without that huge deal they would be basically out of cash.*

*note: this does not mean bankrupt, that's something different

There's something to be said for simply avoiding "known bad" choices though - it is often vastly simpler than trying to engineer a new "good" state. I'm not sure there exists a way to consistently derive a new "good" outcome from "known bad" principles?

Interesting that this doesn't mention the Jony Ive hardware collaboration as getting canned. A hardware project seems like a massive side quest if they want to focus.

Absolutely. The unbelievable thing to me is that our governments and regulatory bodies appear to have learned nothing from this (or the gambling industry in general) and continue to let scope creep happen and more of these things exist. Wild.
