Writer. Substack: The Friends Guide to Horrible Things. My kid's book (Read it Again!) and debut novel (Whirly World) are on sale now. Co-Founder: EasyAllies, GameTrailers. He/him.
Thought of no one other than @michaelphuber.bsky.social as I downloaded this to my phone immediately upon seeing the ad. It’s probably awful but my curiosity alone will hold me for a few days.

My free Substack post this week is called "Masks," a theme I selfishly picked when I noticed it'd go live today. And you can sub now to get this week's chapter: Fear. May your Halloween festivities be otherwise free of horrible things. horriblethings.substack.com/p/chapter-19...

Happy Halloween, friends! Stay spooky! Stay safe!

The last chapter of my Substack resonated with people more than most, and I think that's because it's more of a window into the stuff I handle on a daily basis with Milo. Some of these require a lot of research, and some just come from the heart. horriblethings.substack.com/p/chapter-15...

HAPPY OCTOBER, BLUESKY!

Positively jolly chatting with @islahinck.bsky.social for this month's interview on my Substack. Since she is "skilled at grief," she has a lot to share about turning pain into art, and finding the right salve for each person's hurt. horriblethings.substack.com/p/interview-...

Sometimes I do something funny for Milo, and I know I’m asking for it because he’ll love it and tell me to do it over and over and over. Anyway, here’s Dad Mummy (or Dad Darkman).

It makes me happy to see multiple references to Sneakers today on BlueSky, in the wake of Redford’s passing. I used to think it was a niche film, a fun spy caper only a few knew about, but its excellence seems well documented on this platform. If you haven’t seen it, today’s a good day to fix that.

Proud of Amanda for bringing several of her wacky animal voices to Genndy Tartakovsky’s Fixed, which is out on Netflix today. It is extremely not safe for kids. Maybe the raunchiest animated feature of the century. And what a beautiful accomplishment that is.

This was a pretty sweet flex at the time. No title. No cast. Logo and date.

We’re staying in a cabin up near Big Bear and I checked the board game cabinet and HIT THE JACKPOT, BABY!

Well DAMN. Cynthia Erivo was ASTOUNDING. Her moments with Adam Lambert knocked me out. That Bowl was supercharged with electricity. I don’t think it’s possible to do that show any better. But best of luck to anyone that wants to try. 🤘🏻

Seated for Jesus Christ Superstar at the Bowl. The show that launched my love for musicals. My favorite venue in the world. I played Pilate my Junior year. I sang Pilate’s Dream for my college audition. I am ready to rock.

This week's free chapter on my Horrible Things Substack is called "Stick Around," and while it's about keeping yourself available when your friends are going through hard times, every time I see the title all I can think about is Predator. horriblethings.substack.com/p/chapter-6-...

Today I’m launching a Substack called The Friend’s Guide to Horrible Things. It’s a series of short lessons focusing on how to care for friends and family experiencing life’s unpredictable disasters. Check it out, or pass it on if you think it might help somebody. horriblethings.substack.com

Today, Milo is 6! He is my hero, now and forever, facing more challenges than any kid his age should have to deal with. But he does it with bravery and humor, and inspires me to do the same. I love you, buddy, and wish you all the fast cars and marbles and happiness in the world.

Brian Wilson might not have been made for these times, but I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have lived through a fraction of them. As a SoCal boy, he wrote the score to my home, my youth, my hopes and dreams. A brilliant mind and a beautiful heart. RIP
