Chess enthusiast. Excuse me, I only am grazing
I wasn't really ready to watch this when it was posted, but GM Daniel Naroditsky's friends at the Charlotte Chess Center shared this fine lecture after his passing, on the myths (mostly) about the Russian chess school.

Smart and entertaining. Will miss him.

I beat a high-rated kid in a tournament yesterday in a wild game where both kings were under constant attack and I did better at playing defense. Conventional wisdom about how to beat kids at chess (bore them to death with quiet positional middlegame and endgame grind) has not been my experience.

looking at a professional opening repertoire. the line goes to move 34. the GM is apologetic and correct that basically all of the last 15 or 20 moves were forcing. what to do.
the evaluation was +0.6 at low depths. it's dead equal now

and it's a benko gambit

GOTD. The wonderful Zagorovsky was not only a c.c. legend - he was a fine player over the board as well. A forgotten gem.

GM José Martínez Alcántara defeated GM Alexey Sarana in the first game of Round 4 of the FIDE World Cup 2025! He is now on a 3-game winning streak and will play with the white pieces in the next game.

Watching two of the world's best players play a relatively basic queen endgame and feeling vindicated in my belief that they are basically unknowable and not worth the effort. we're just going to give some checks or run from them and hope for the best

Do you know who Lorenzo Lodici is? All I know is he has a great hockey name. Tell me, who are his seconds? What does he eat for breakfast? I want whatever he’s having. #2025FIDEWorldCup

I agree. And also would be great fun to see Jospem, for sake of capillaries in face of Kramnik
I hope we see Nodirbek Abdusattorov in the Candidates someday, but it looks like it will not be this year.

Curious detail from chess World Cup. Ivanchuk is asked about Naroditsky. His answer is rambling, not of great interest, but he mentions he had discussed the game he lost to Naroditsky with Kasparov by Skype.

I am surprised they still speak. Great respect to both. Shame there was no match

Happy with the knockouts this round. Never like to see Ivanchuk lose, but hard to root against Shankland. Nepo complaining about conditions in India? Buh-bye! The Americans Neimann and So? Oh well...

Top three FIDE World Cup: I've got MVL, Keymer, Giri. I'll take Pragg over Erigaisi for the third spot if Giri's in twice.

I can't pretend Bluesky matches Chess Twitter in any way, but this is a great project that doesn't exist there. And if you're a Lichess user, the vast majority of these sad people have an active profile there just waiting to be blocked. Most of them have coaches pages, too
