It's a game...in which we roleplay. Like, you can't really separate them from each other and still have a roleplaying game.

(Holmes/blue book Basic D&D *did* come in a boxed set, but you could also buy the rulebook as a standalone, which is how my grandmother bought it for me (at a *hardware store*) in the summer of 1979.)

What gets me is that he's saying "we should kill these congresspeople for telling soldiers they are required to disobey unlawful orders," which...sounds to me like he's saying "No, you *will* follow unlawful orders and you'll like it." Which is a wild thing for a U.S. president to say out loud.

I have seen enough people using it to mean "unchallenging for white people" that it kind of wards me off when used as a label now.

When I was a kid I always wanted to do a D&D campaign based on the attached setting, but somehow I never got around to it. Nowadays I would not use D&D but I'd have to think about what I *would* use.

Also came with a shitload of little plastic "rubies," "sapphires," and "emeralds" meant for scorekeeping, but in my house they mostly acted as surprise caltrops.
