After sneaking out the door and running off, spending 3 days and nights on her own, we were so happy Emma decided to come back! Silly fluffy kitty! Inside, where there are
Snackies, laps and warm blankets!

Standing in the line up at the Dutch Deli… Dutch Christmas carols playing, in front of this display….

Memories!

Underfund community care, close (or don’t even build) public washrooms, create hostile settings by putting police in the market instead of addressing root causes etc. If we want to put action to words, we’ll reflect that in our budget. And that means being fiscally responsible, better use 2/

It’s good to be home and to cook: seared NY strip; crispy roasted potatoes; celeriac w/brown butter; roasted squash w/onions & garlic; green beans; red wine and my best friend. Perfect evening.

This latest newsletter from @neilsara.bsky.social includes this bit which I feel in my core. I resist, and advocate for change, at enormous personal sacrifice; I become effectively blacklisted within certain circles for speaking up for the public interest and trying to do the right thing.

From the IG pages: if the #OttLRT was an interesting journey no one would care if it was a bit slower. Instead we run it thru featureless tunnels, the middle of highways etc; make the trip more interesting, more reliable, more uplifting and more ppl will take it. 1/

They absolutely 100% do. If I designed a building that didn’t meet codes and standards I’d lose my license. I’m held accountable for professional standards and design requirements. So why don’t we do the same with those who designed roads and sidewalks?

#OttCity is same, on top of being one of a largest munis in the country; one solution: congestion charges: 1 to cross into city, 2nd to cross greenbelt, 3rd to cross into core. Won’t ever happen though bc of how votes go.

Took a walk in Halifax…. Yes, that’s a lamppost base in the middle of the sidewalk. Oops.

Shout out to Dave Thomson for a great show.

Back at the pub; local IPA and singer w/his guitar playing to a near empty house. Quiet and peaceful. Getting work done.

If we want to put truth to our vision, to take action on our commitments to make #PlacesForPeople all we need is the political will; the money is there and not only can we spend smarter today, we can save money tomorrow. 3/

Left mine at Cenotaph in Gander. The least I can do for the sacrifice they’ve made.

Missed the ceremonies in Ottawa today (was airborne at 11) so went to the war graves cenotaph and memorial park in Gander. Didn’t know the connection to Sgt. Gander on the Hong Kong Memorial in #OttCity (reposted to fix typo)

We lack coherent policy guidance and shoot on our own goal repeatedly. It’s all connected: planning, architecture, budget, transit, housing/land use policy; we’re facing challenges and the same old same old isn’t good enough; @brenttoderian.bsky.social @toderianuw.bsky.social

I may have fallen into a pattern: brined salmon and lentils with veg. And a glass for Cote du Rhône

Welcome to winter… the season where pedestrians in #OttCity really know where they stand; glad we prioritize walkable hoods and accessible spaces to help support #SmallBiz on traditional main streets. (Image doesn’t show but this is. 15cm deep lake of sludge in the crosswalk)

Buttermilk chicken; brown rice; roasted Brussels sprouts, carrots and shallots; steamed green beans. Heavenly winter meal, shared with my best friend. Life is good.

For some reason we’ve started attracting pigeons to the backyard.

Weeps in (some) #OttCity BIAs whining about street parking (while a city owned/built off street garage in hood goes largely unused) and other businesses celebrate the reopening of one pedestrian block in the Market in celebration of MoAR PaRkiNG

I remember, years ago, in Manhattan coming across a Home Depot. It doesn’t have to be in a car dependent straw all of endless parking lots. It could just be your neighbourhood hardware store.
