Today's #wipsnip word is 'run'. What I love about this scene in The Ante is the friendship between Rob and Card bringing levity to a tense situation.

The final book of my #52booksin52weeks challenge was King of Ashes by @blacktopkid.bsky.social . I've read four books of his this year and this one had the bleakest ending, but also some of the most real characters I've read in a crime novel. #booksky #bookrecommendations #readingchallenges

I've officially started writing a horror/slasher novel. We're in the early stages, with only act one complete, but I'm excited to share this sneak peak of my villain.

This is one of many fantastic quotes in King of Ashes. Literary crime thrillers are my favorite!

This week I'm reading King of Ashes by SA Cosby. He's become my favorite author of 2025, so I thought it would be fitting to read his latest novel to complete my 52 book challenge.

Happy Halloween!
Book 51 of 2025 was Casual Necromancy by Ryan Krone. A fun collection of dark short stories about residents of a small neighborhood. It takes the "How well do you really know your neighbors?" question to the extreme. #quotes #horror #shortstories #booksky

Book 50 of 2025 was not a book at all. Wilted Flowers by Despoina Kemeridou is a poetry collection that delves into grief, madness, despair, and, finally, hope. In this real is an Acrostic poem named Truth. #poems #poem #poetry #darkpoetry #darkveilsociety

Book 49 of 2025 was Death Cult by Janelle Schiecke. The same way The Clatter Man captured the feelings of slashers like Candyman and Friday the 13th, this story captures the essence of the Wrong Turn and The Hills Have Eyes franchises. It's a story of isolation and cannibalistic terror. #booksky
October 29, 2025 at 4:07 PM
Book 48 of 2025 was Toadhead by Andrew Lyall. This was both gory and funny. It starts out with a good bit of dark humor and quirkiness that turns into a truly terrifying ending. Get it here

Book 47 of 2025 was The Last Outlaw by Lee Hall. I loved the blending of genres between old western and horror! Also, based on the last chapter I think this is a prequel to a series. Pick it up here

Book 46 of 2025 was Sinner's Pass by @S_S_Fitzgerald. The premise of a boy lost in a town where the sins of its residents manifest as literal demons is crazy fun.

This week I'm reading Sinner's Pass by @S_S_Fitzgerald. Sounds like a mystery novel within the setting of a religious horror which is a cool premise.

Book 45 of 2025 was Echoes of Betrayal by @moiraAshe93. This book was heartbreaking and had twists I genuinely didn't see coming.
However, very strong trigger warning for SA. Read my full review at www.tomrameytales.substack.com

Book 44 of 2025 was The Veil by @EamonnHBradley. It was a literary coming of age sci-fi horror. It did a lot, but had a lot of fun doing it. Full review at www.tomrameytales.substack.com

So far, this reads as if Cormac McCarthy wrote The Matrix, which is a crazy match-up, but impressive. Here's a more positive quote since most horror novels tend to be downers.

Book 43 of 2025 was Dark Bloom by Molly Macabre. This is probably the closest thing to a romance novel I've ever read, but it still hit all the notes you'd expect from a zombie apocalypse story. #booksky #horrorsky #horrorbooks #indiereads #indiebooks #indiehorror #zombies #romance

It's hard to pick a single quote in a good literary horror novel. I decided to go with one that leaned into the horror of it all.

Book 42 of 2025 was Last Call by J.A. Konrath. It's truly the end of an era.
I remember reading Serial Killers Uncut back when it was just Serial. Cannot recommend either the Jack Daniels or Andrew Z. Thomas series'.

Luther and Lucy are two of the most deranged killers I've read in fiction. The idea of them ruling a small kingdom in the desert is terrifying.
