Darfur is an absolute horror show.

We have a moment of opportunity if the world is ready to seize it.

Civilians must be protected. Access must be expanded. Flow of arms must be limited.

I spent yesterday in Korma with survivors of El Fasher atrocities. So many halting, harrowing conversations in Arabic, or translated from Zaghawa, about horror and misery.

Then Haseena pushed through crowd. Speaking in perfect English, she wanted the world to hear her story. #Sudan

In Tawila, I visited this nutrition centre, backed by the #Sudan Humanitarian Fund – a lifeline for displaced families, powered by Sudanese health workers and local groups who know the needs of their communities best.

This is humanitarian action amid immense hardship.

A day visiting survivors from El Fasher in Korma and Tawila, and meeting community volunteers.

Darfur is the epicentre of human suffering. So many stories of brutality and horror. These stories must be told.

In Tawila, I spoke to women who fled El Fasher only a few weeks ago. They carry terrifying stories of brutal violence. The world has not protected them. We must do better. #Sudan

In Tawila today, I spent time with mothers and caregivers of severely malnourished kids and women who have endured the worst horrors of the siege of El Fasher.

The world failed to protect them: we must not fail them again.

After several days on the road, we finally arrived and saw the massive site where survivors from El Fasher are taking refuge.

Will be in Tawila for next two days to listen, learn and galvanize support.

Up early again for the next leg of our Darfur mission. Thanks to our friends @savethechildren.org for putting us up in Golo.

Six hour drive ahead to Tawila, where we need to get much more lifesaving support, humanitarian presence - and protection - to survivors. #Sudan

On road deeper into Darfur.

We have sought and received clear assurances – backed by international community – that humanitarians can work everywhere we are needed in Sudan. We want to show it is possible.

Arrived in El Geneina.

Spending next few days in Darfur to listen to communities who have fled horrific violence and to understand how the world can do better.

Practical and positive exchange with General Al-Burhan on continued dialogue and cooperation to improve humanitarian access across Sudan.

The UN appreciates the clear commitment to support us to deliver lifesaving aid everywhere it is needed.

Latest Humanifesto on a frantic few weeks from Gaza to Darfur, via New York and Nir Oz, Dublin and Duxford.

Plus a raw podcast, an Observer diary, TikTok trepidation, UN fightback, and some random book, speech, article and music recommendations.

In Port Sudan, I worked with Foreign Ministers of Sudan & Egypt on urgent steps to reach people in need across the country – from Darfur to the Kordofans.

Grateful for their partnership & commitment to facilitate neutral and impartial humanitarian action everywhere it is needed.

One month since the Gaza ceasefire, we’re delivering on our 60-day plan.

We’re saving lives but could save many more with better access, more safety and more funding.

The #Philippines faces another storm.

I've allocated US$5.95 million from UN CERF, one of the fastest ways to deliver funds in emergencies, in this case within just minutes of early warnings to support communities most at risk.

Against better judgement and advice of everyone I know (especially my kids), l've joined TikTok. I have always argued we should be where conversations are happening.

We’re transforming how we deliver lifesaving aid — empowering local leaders and communities, improving efficiency and innovation, and defending our values, including the neutrality of our aid.

Des millions de personnes dans l'est de la RDC font face aux déplacements, aux maladies et à la faim.

Merci à la France et au Togo d'avoir organisé une réunion cruciale et pour leur engagement en faveur de la paix dans la région.

Yesterday's 6.3 magnitude earthquake in northern #Afghanistan left at least 25 people killed and hundreds injured.

We are on the ground helping affected families.

Ongoing attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians and their property across the West Bank continue.

I’ve allocated $4 million from UNCERF to get urgent aid to people affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.

This will allow UN agencies and partners to scale up life-saving aid.
November 2, 2025 at 6:01 PM
UN Charter pledged us to save generations from scourge of war, defend human rights and justice.

Amid horror of El Fasher we must return to those words as rebuke for international failure, and challenge that world can do better.
