Past-President of SWPA. Mathematician happily working in the psychological sciences at Tarleton State. Converts knowledge thus gained into student-friendly fare.
It is no secret that I miss being in the classroom. But last night I got to give a workshop - the first one I've done since my new book came out. I spent time with students tossing beach balls (!) and hopefully demystifying this whole "Bayesian" thing. Can't wait to do it again!

Over the moon about my 4th place overall finish at this weekend's Little Elm Sprint Duathlon. Lots of room for improvement, too...looking forward to the next opportunity to race!

Finally! Six years after the release of the open-source book Learning Statistics with JASP, version 2.0 is live! I have updated the book to include screenshots of the newest version of JASP, as well as typo fixes. All can be seen at learnstatswithjasp.com. Enjoy!!

Seeing a book in print always brings conflicting feelings - joy, relief, and a looming "what's next?".

But today, I will focus on joy, for it is a beautiful book! It is the book I wanted to read a decade ago...but it feels pretty good to be the one who got around to writing it.

Final edits on page proofs submitted today! Here is a sneak peak of the new book...counting down the days until I hold the physical copy in my hands!

I’ve been in NYC since Tuesday for Psychonomics. After a long week, it is time for a little down time before heading home tomorrow.

Guess what I have tickets to see??!!

Superb day out at the Grasslands Trail Run! Ran this one in sandals, for which the sandy trails are perfect. No plans for performance, but ended up running my fastest, most evenly split 1/2 marathon EVER. Felt great all day….glad to have good fitness this year.

It makes me so happy to see new papers every day that use my PsyStat app for computing Bayes factors. This one is from a new paper of Feder et al. (2024) in Memory & Cognition (doi.org/10.3758/s134...). A lot of my life's work has gone into that app, so thanks for using it!

My new book is officially underway. "Bayesian Statistics: The Basics" will be published by Routledge / Taylor & Francis sometime in early 2025!

Now it is time to get to work. If anyone wants to provide an early desk review before final submission (probably summer 2024), please let me know.

This is how I imagine that I would be captioned if I were giving a lecture on TV

New preprint: "Closed-form approximations of the two-sample Pearson Bayes factor"

tl;dr - 3 methods for *really good* Bayes factor approximations from only t, df, and a calculator. How good? The "worst" vastly outperforms the BIC method (see below).

New paper (preprint) about to be released on the arXiv Wednesday morning. So happy to finally get this work converted from scattered notebooks on my desk into a single coherent paper!
