UK Labour Member. We won. Now let’s deliver. But taking money off vulnerable people is not the answer to the country’s problems. So let’s not do that 🫡
You are right that the word “defection” is usually reserved for those who hold elected positions but it is possible to defect from one political party to another by cancelling your membership to one and signing up to the other.

This is market sensitive material and I would expect the FCA to take action accordingly.

I know, but I am for the FO strategy too. 😂😂😂

Would be nice if we didn’t have someone going through cognitive decline in the Whitehouse. At least the UK and the rest of Europe is standing firm with Ukraine. We have to. Our security is at stake too.

I’m just worried that 2028 might be too late.

I thought our printed media was regulated through IPSO. They have an independent appointments system and their current CEO does not seem to have the same sort of history as a Michael Grade.

This is bugbear of mine, so I will continue to bang on about it 😂

Maybe the key to this is the Chair of Ofcom position. I believe that comes up for renewal next year. At the moment, Ofcom might as well not exist.

We are getting unprecedented daily media ravaging anyway. I’d just do it and bite the bullet. Can’t be any worse. But that’s just me 🫠

This has exploded all over social media, including yesterday’s LK interview with Reeves. The damage has been done. The country thinks Reeves is a liar.

We clearly see this differently. I would consider it to be correcting an abuse of power. I would get rid of all of them and get Parliament to approve the introduction of a new independent appointment regime.
December 1, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Agreed. It was a mistake not to calm this out and introduce an appointment system outside of government influence on day 1.

The system is not perfect, especially when the Tories were in office for 14 years, which produced a conveyor belt of their appointees dominating the BBC. The Board has too much power. The 4 who are appointed by the Govt, appoint all the other Board members. That should be done independently.

I wonder why? Same with Sky.

The abuse of power was the Tories breaking with convention and apportioning former Tories into senior positions. We also have a Tory Lord as Chair of Ofcom (he had to resign the Tory whip on appointment, but he is still a Tory). There is an obligation on the government to restore independence.

The Government has the power to introduce legislation to get rid of the lot of them now. Could you imagine Farage putting up with a bunch of Labour appointed people? No. He would call them all lefties and oust them on day 1. We should have done the same.

The strong links between the Tory party and Sky/BBC are clear. The only question in my mind is why the government is tolerating this level of infiltration into our supposedly unbiased broadcast media.
