I am hearing my constituents loud and clear, and while this is just my opinion as one legislator— I’m not willing to cut budgets without also disconnecting (at least parts) from the federal tax code.

Together we are calling on the Trump administration to immediately release contingency funds that will keep millions of Americans from hunger, including roughly 136,000 people in Multnomah County alone who rely on federal food assistance.

That’s almost 1 in 5 Multnomah County residents.
Multnomah County and Portland leaders, community partners call on Trump administration to fund food assistance to prevent hardship, hunger and suffering for 136,000 County residents
The federal administration can immediately act to release these contingency funds at any time — today, even — and spare 136,000 of our neighbors from needless suffering and hunger.

It’s disappointing the Governor is doubling down on undercutting a program serving thousands of young children, building a needed early education workforce & allowing thousands of parents to participate in our workforce as a means to push drastic cuts for the wealthiest taxpayers.

This past week, I received a lot of emails with concerns about Preschool For All. I am not in favor of making sweeping changes. One narrative we’re hearing is that high income earners are leaving Multnomah County. That is not true. Below are data sets showing that. #PreschoolForAll #MultCo #ORleg

Preschool for All is voter approved initiative. Any changes should only happen after extensive public engagement. Our community needs us to lead with transparency and respect for the will of the voters, especially when democracy is under attack and important programs face painful cuts. #orleg #orpol
Preschool for All is smart public policy. And top earners are growing in the County despite the misinformation from business lobbyists. We ask reporters to and leaders like Governor @tinakotek.bsky.social to check the facts.

🚨The Oregon Legislature just posted an amendment to repeal Multnomah County’s Preschool for All 🚨

Senate Bill 106 has a work session tomorrow in Salem at 1:00 PM. Somehow there is no public hearing posted, hopefully that changes

Facts matter, especially when they concern the future of our children and our economic development strategies that support young families.

The fact is that the number of high income earners paying into Preschool for All is increasing.

Preschool for All is a community-driven commitment to opportunity, equity, and support for children, families, workers, and small businesses that 64% of voters said yes to.

Hasty decisions effecting the rollout of this program will not serve the families of Multnomah County.

“Its small size” 🤨 This is systemic racism in action. Not a dig, it’s just the truth. I agree with Christy Splitt that affluent white parents are going to be upset about this, and it’ll be quite enlightening to watch.
