I know this is a cat account, but I also know a lot of you are animal lovers in general so I have a sincere request for help. A horse at a farm sanctuary near us had a health crisis over the weekend and they could really use help with the vet bills. 1/2 donorbox.org/mmfs-vet

I'm increasingly worried that we're spiraling into an AI-fueled mental health crisis -- tons of evidence coming out that AI is picking up on signs of psychosis/delusion in users and ENCOURAGING it

ChatGPT Is Telling People With Psychiatric Problems to Go Off Their Meds
For some people, obsession with ChatGPT has gone so far, it's exacerbating their mental illness — and causing them to go off their meds.

I think of the genAI industry as fundamentally anti-human. They want to replace workers, they want to erode thinking itself. When I first heard about ChatGPT it was obvious to me that it would be a disaster for people with mental illness. But the problem is, the industry preys on people to profit

NEW: We investigated several stories of people who spiraled into severe, life-altering mental health crises after developing all-consuming obsessions with ChatGPT.

Screenshots we reviewed show the AI directly engaging with and supporting user delusions + conspiracies.

Ms. Donovan said she hoped the protests would expand beyond picketing in front of Tesla locations… organizers laid out plans to begin urging city and state governments to sell their Tesla stock”

Trying to get my head round how this could make it to print. Many warning signs for all of us
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?

Newsletter: I am sick and god damn tired of everybody pretending that generative AI is the next big thing. The media is complicit in accepting fantastical nonsense - both in the numbers put out by OpenAI and the silly jobs created by Anthropic - and it has to stop.

I'm sick and god-damn tired of this! I have written tens of thousands of words about this and still, to this day, people are babbling about the "AI revolution" as the sky rains blood and crevices open...

No matter what the slogan was, people would have called it too radical because they don't want police reform. I have yet to see someone complaining about the slogan offer a different, completely unimpeachable slogan.
I personally think "Defund the police" is a good slogan but the slogan discourse is a distraction. Centrist elites could have focused on the urgent need for police reform. Instead they focused on scolding activists for being a political liability — and turned them into one.

I will die on this hill: the slogans are good. even if you disagreed with the messages, they were terse and memorable and nobody has come up with anything better!

You guys don’t need to try to convince me that any form of AI has merit. It doesn’t. It is boring and half-assed. I am fine getting by with human brain power. If the world nears its end and AI has one hater left, good news! I am still alive.
