"Emil and the Detectives" by Erich Kästner has beautiful original period illustrations by Walter Trier, which seem to have been replaced by modern ones by other artist (or at least the cover has been replaced), in spite of the Trier ones being in the public domain, as he died in 1952...

The original French theme is an instrumental dirge of a march, especially when compared to the British alternative - can't begin to imagine what that might sound like interpreted by Johnny Halliday... I imagine YouTube might be able to provide an answer...

Genuinely loved all of them - the books are unreadable, but the movies are really absorbing. Even enjoyed The Hobbit trilogy (the first one in ultra high-frame rate 3D is probably the best presentation of a movie I've seen as well).
