Deeply sad and troubling. The fetishization of STEM and conflation of collegiate education with vocational training is to our universal detriment. A true education is STEM and humanities. A major can be instrumental but it must not be solely valued as such.
As we all keep saying, humanists have been doing a LOT to try to increase enrollments, build energy and interest, develop new courses, minors, certificates, etc. Core problems revolve around ingrained cultural views that prioritize instrumental and vocational understandings of higher ed
