I am reminded of the calculation I encountered the other day for converting Julian Day to Gregorian Calendar which just uses integer arithmetic with some weird constants

Agreed about the UX. the downtime between the learning challenge levels when just following the fast “next level” path, and the music fading out and back in on each one, seems unacceptable.

Lumines must have been a major point of inspiration in the design of Tetris Effect, which is a connection I had never made before getting my hands on Arise. Making a Lumines game as a follow-up to Tetris Effect feels like a fantastic way to square up that connection and pay tribute.

It made me realize how much the original Lumines shares with Tetris effect. It uses transforming sounds and visuals, with sound effects offset to sync with music. It plays with the game speed and rhythm to squeeze and release pressure on the player.
