In 1950, Jules Feiffer provided CLIFFORD to the back page of Will Eisner's SPIRIT newspaper booklets. (Clifford - and Feiffer - appeared in an actual SPIRIT story, reprinted in Vol. 21 of DC's SPIRIT ARCHIVES.)

A memory from a decade ago: the @idislikestephen.bsky.social triumph at Comic-Con International: San Diego in 2014, courtesy @thompsonval.bsky.social … Pop Culture Happy Hour had a panel.

Comics Street Cred: Marvel’s COMIC CAPERS #6 (1946) featured Silly Seal and Ziggy Pig. It was dated Fall, but the candy canes on my dress put the photo closer to Christmas. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Savoring memories today, I'll share this from Comic-Con International: San Diego. It's @thompsonval.bsky.social with Superman co-creator Joe Shuster in 1976. Super, right?

You may be receiving holiday letters these days. My guess is that few resemble this, part of what Mom and Dad titled “CURTIS, CURTIS, Curtis, & Curtis Annual Report 1950.” (That January story was Betsy Curtis’ first sale: “Divine Right.”)

Celebrities at the 2003 Friends of Old Time Radio convention included comics-connected Will Hutchins and Hal Stone. Hutchins played Sugarfoot on TV, but he also played Dagwood Bumstead on TV's BLONDIE show. Did you know Stone played Jughead on the radio show THE ADVENTURES OF ARCHIE ANDREWS?

Among my photos, @thompsonval.bsky.social found a different aspect of the history of THE ONION. Did you ever hear about Team Onion? Here’s @idislikestephen.bsky.social in 2001, taking notes following a slide into base. Journalistic softball in Madison! (I invite wordplay.)

Wiki says David Kyle may have published the first comics fanzine. The science-fiction pioneer was active in club, fanzine, convention, and publishing activities (including Gnome Press). Here he is at the 2004 WorldCon in a photo @thompsonval.bsky.social found in My Stuff.

In a comics moment at 1963’s Chicon III World Science Fiction Convention: Maggie and Don Thompson as Taia and Ibis; Larry Ivie as Batman and Les Gerber as Robin; and Fred Patten as Flash from the LASFAS group that came to the costume event as the Justice Society. Thanks to @thompsonval.bsky.social

Hmm, I wonder if @farawaypress.com has been doing anything recently. I suggest folks check his posts here, because there seems to be ongoing news. This photo is from an earlier era, courtesy of what @thompsonval.bsky.social turned up among my photos from 1998 ...

Among finds by @thompsonval.bsky.social is this photo of Ray Bradbury, speaking at the 1976 July 21-25 Comic-Con International: San Diego. What an adventure that was!

Here are Jan and Stan Berenstain with some Cleveland-area fans. (Note: Bears are clearly available for purchase.) Does anyone have idea of when this might have occurred?
December 9, 2024 at 5:34 PM
I'm not sure of the details of this photo @thompsonval.bsky.social found. It's from a department-store event (Higbee's in Cleveland?) in which Jan and Stan Berenstain drew their bears for fans.

STAR WARS was released May 25, 1977. And PEOPLE WEEKLY for July 18, 1977 was still writing about it! © 1977 Time Inc. “Every so often, a film comes along that eclipses every other pleasure under the sun and drags America back into the movie houses.” @thompsonval.bsky.social found this in My Stuff.

Here’s another photo find by @thompsonval.bsky.social ... Last week, I posted one from John Benson’s July 1966 NYC comics convention. Here’s another. This one features a panel with (L-R) Bill Harris (I think), Roy Thomas, Maurice Horn, and Gil Kane.

Among finds by @thompsonval.bsky.social is a stack of photos from the CBLDF “Making Waves” cruise to Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, and Mazatlan in 2000. Programming included a panel featuring (note the IDs) Kim Thompson, Martin Nodell, and Evan Dorkin. (It was more fun than this suggests.)

A comic-art antique! (“New!”) @thompsonval.bsky.social turned up this item (not quite Mint In Bag) buried in My Stuff.

Question for today: Valerie @thompsonval.bsky.social located this photo of Jim Davis at the Garfield Heights (Ohio) library (in celebration, I think, of its reopening). He drew (yes) Garfield for attendees. But when was it?
