You’re doing great sweetie keep going

All anyone is doing otherwise is continuing to just lower an already disastrously low bar.

M can get better and i hope it does. In a decade plus of living next door to it and working within and beside it, I’ve seen no evidence it wants to do so and abundant, constant evidence that its least powerful stakeholders care desperately about seeing it happen and are ignored or worse.
December 11, 2025 at 7:13 PM
Fair enough, as I say elsewhere I have a far less charitable view of U of M institutionally (coming from being within and now outside of it) and just don’t view it as capable of acting rationally or purely autonomously.
December 11, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Cynically, my take is that the regents haven’t and won’t be able to soberly and rationally guide the educational mission of U of M , just as athletics has and is poised to similarly and repeatedly falter. It’s multifactorial but seems like a symptom of the rapacious financialization of higher ed.
December 11, 2025 at 6:06 PM
Right, but football is a different beast. I don’t doubt decisions remain in certain hands but those who feel they are financially responsible for 2023 likely do presume to wield not insignificant influence. No one is trying to interfere as heavily in a post-Howard bball hire, no?
December 11, 2025 at 5:59 PM
But while regent influence is new in athletics, even if they ousted Warde I feel like the well of shadow brokers when it comes to the Football program has terrifyingly deepened since 2020?
December 11, 2025 at 5:52 PM
The regents are steadily building the U’s future in the image of the factional interests they represent, if recent repressions of speech on campus are any indicator.

But yes take down the statue. Don’t let Dantonio become Emeritus cultural MSU football administrator. It’s painfully tough to get the average fan on board with either.
December 11, 2025 at 2:55 PM
My point was simply to illustrate how both institutions are seen by those who can mete out justice as too important for real, materially lasting reckonings and protected from it. At a certain point we have to admit that a culture of toxicity and abuse is / was often the rule culturally in major cfb.
December 11, 2025 at 2:53 PM
I don’t mean any ill will and respect you a lot so thanks for the opportunity to find common ground, brother. I want better for these young men and women and they keep getting failed again and again.
December 11, 2025 at 2:42 PM
100%. I think the failures of beat reporting at Michigan are abjectly awful, and also a symptom of how evil access journalism has become writ large. Anyone asking Kirby Smart tough questions about his program these days? Ever?
December 11, 2025 at 2:39 PM
What you are upset about is not unique to Michigan, it’s also abundantly the case for MSU and basically every major university with a powerful athletics brand. Making it about rivalry grievances seems trite to me, sorry.
December 11, 2025 at 2:37 PM
Both schools will face reputational harm in the public eye and MAYBE the media coverage is “harsher” on MSU, meanwhile Dantonio picks your next HC. Neither program or institution ever faces real material accountability beyond the lowest possible bar.
December 11, 2025 at 2:32 PM
Because you implied that cultural things stick to MSU and your evidence was some non material hypothetical column in the Detroit News, when in material reality things happen like Dana Nessel shutting the door on any further lawsuits against MSU as part of the Nasser fallout
December 11, 2025 at 2:31 PM
That’s part of my literal point, dog.
December 11, 2025 at 2:26 PM
How do you think U of M is going to appear culturally / in the public eye after this scandal for years? Regardless of how good the Sam Webb spin is. Get real.
December 11, 2025 at 2:24 PM
It’s just ridiculous to put this through the lens of “my team gets more unfair coverage than their team.” U of M and MSU as institutions have both *repeatedly* been shielded *by state government* from the repercussions of countless incidences of grievous harm and you’re talking about pool questions?
December 11, 2025 at 2:19 PM
Since when are settlements the ontological grounding for a culture at NW that had already been independently established?
December 11, 2025 at 2:15 PM
I’m taking the Browns and the points, sweetie, and don’t sleep on a Sanders anytime rushing TD. I miss you!
