So typical. So typical.”

Guzoo- the Thing Forsaken By God Part 1 (there is no part two).

A quartet of high school girls are beset by a slimy tentacle monster. It thankfully did not go where you might be thinking.

In total dad mode on my day off. Slow cooking a pork shoulder all day and #NowWatching (rewatching) True Grit (2010).

Jeff Bridges truly is phenomenal in the film, but this and Crazy Heart really just took over his career. He’s basically been Rooster Cogburn for the past 15 years now.

Zerograd (1988) is my movie to beat for ‘discovery of the year.’ A nightmarish comedy about the fall of the Soviet Union. Surreal, funny, sad, at times beautiful.

I’m sure a lot of the cultural references went over my head but what an experience!

Started hate-watching Welcome to Derry and… I kinda like it more than the movies? I’m not entirely sold- I don’t like Muschietti’s style and that military subplot is gonna drive me crazy- but the horror elements are some real sicko freak shit.

That’ll keep me coming back for now.

This morning I slept in, but that means I was still up by 6am.

Watched Night of the Creeps before taking the youngest to Legoland for their last Brick or Treat of the season. She won ‘best homemade’ costume, and we saved a praying mantis friend from a busy walkway.

Not a bad October 32nd.

I have this as part of the Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection, which looks like one of those cheap thrown together film packs with questionable vhs prints.

In reality this is a rock solid collection of ten Universal pictures from the 40s and 50s. Great quality, an essential part of my library.

Sundays are perfect for classic horror!

#NowWatching Tarantula (1955) with the youngest, who wants a tarantula SO BAD.

This movie, directed by Jack Arnold, is so much fun, and the composite effects for the giant tarantula menacing the countryside are absolutely top notch.

Completely by accident and surprise, I ended up at the Anaheim Fall Festival for a little while today. While wandering with my youngest, we ran across the @thefridacinema.org booth, where I picked up some stickers and won a free ticket.
Plenty of stuff on the calendar I want to use it on.
A ‘complimentary admission’ ticket to the Frida and an assortment of Frida logo stickers in a variety of colors.

Off work early, so I’m digging further into this weekends Blu-ray haul. I’ve decided to watch Argento’s Three Mothers trilogy this week, starting with this cool Korean Blu-ray of Suspiria.

The last time I saw this was an old Anchor Bay DVD, & this new transfer is eye-popping!

Finished Black Flame by @scumbelievable.bsky.social while on my work lunch. I’ve loved all of her books but she just keeps getting better and better. I thought Cuckoo was right in my sweet spot, but man, Black Flame hit me like a truck.

What an ending!

Breaking in to the new Blu-ray’s I got today. The youngest wanted to watch a Godzilla and we eventually landed on Godzilla and Mothra! Good choice.

Oh man, I need to update my letterboxd ‘to watch’ list.

Very excited about the Grindhouse Releasing 3-disc set for The Beyond, and this cool Korean bluray for Suspiria. A surprising amount of Argento, Bava, and Fulci.

Plus all of Star Trek TOS, TNG, and all of the movies on bluray. And all of the Heisei Godzilla flicks.

Stopped by a yard sale down the street. I normally pass them by because yard sales here are mostly boring home goods bought in bulk. But this guy had TUBS full of Blu-ray’s and DVDs and books and CDs. He said ‘fill up a box, $5.’

Look at this haul, for only $10!!!
A box full of Blu-ray’s and 4K discs. Too many to list, but all of Star Trek TOS and TNG on Blu-ray, all the original Trek cast films, some Argento and Fulci films). Also a handful of CDs. A box full of mostly graphic novels (Doom Patrol; Shade, the Changing Man;, From Hell; Fear Agent Vol. 1 & 2, some Charles Burns stuff). Also a few DVDs (Mario Bava 5-film collection, Toshiro Mifune Ultimate Collection, three of the Blind Dead films, a couple Toho 3-packs). Four books: The Book of Human Insects by Osamu Tezuka; Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth by Chris Ware; Kirby King of Comics by Mark Evanier; Advertising Art in Russia 1968-1978.

Back home from our night in Napa. Made sure we passed through San Jose to stop at the incredible Recycle Bookstore.

Then stopped at a roadside stand in Gilroy (the garlic capital of the world) for some garlic ice cream. An odd experience at first but surprisingly delicious.
A couple books I picked up at Recycle Bookstore. Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King, and Ed Wood: Nightmare of Ecstasy by Rudolph Grey. My hand holding a small tub of garlic ice cream. Through my big-stained windshield you can the roadside stand I bought it from.

It was a six hour drive to get here, but we’ve checked into the hotel, scarfed some delicious pad Thai, and now we’re inside and getting ready for the show!
