I started these (mostly native) gardens from turf lawn 2 years ago & I can hardly believe it myself. One of the best things I've ever done. 🖤
Lessons from MN: get to know your neighbors. You don't need to be besties, but be familiar & recognizable. Keep an eye out for each other. Exchange phone numbers. Host block parties, game nights, or crafternoons. Share tools & recipes. Check on vulnerable neighbors regularly. Build NOW. 🖤

As things were unfolding over north last night, I watched live reporting to stay aligned with reality. Agitators & outsiders will never understand the level of care/community/restraint, but I watched it with my own eyes. Neighbors checking on one another & the journalist & person filming. People🧵1

Things appear to be business as usual elsewhere in The Cities today, but I can feel it. Every person I interacted with in the community today acted with a kindness & gentleness that felt different from our normal MN Nice. We got us. 🖤

Take a slow, deep breath. Close your eyes. Another breath. Relax your face. Another. Relax your shoulders. Another. Drink a glass of water. Get comfy.

📢 YOU NEED TO PROCESS YOUR GRIEF/RAGE. 📢

Sit with it. Talk about it. Move your body. Stop looking at screens. Rest even if you can't sleep. 🖤

Went to lunch at noon & it was lovely out — snow melting, roads great, almost left my coat in the car. Came out an hour-ish later to frigid wind, temps 10-15°F colder, whiteout conditions, blowing snow, icy roads. Be careful out there, MN friends! ❄️🌨️🧊

I've said it before & I'll say it again — these parents think their kids were ruined by participation trophies*, but desperately want a participation trophy of their own.

Watched Come See Me In The Good Light on 🍎TV & the way I cackled & sobbed, often simultaneously — OOF. It was tender & heavy & queer & funny & light & everyone should watch it. What a gift to still be able to read Andrea's words even in their absence. 🖤

In another universe, he continues... "and that's why ANYONE who has a baby will be paid my salary for the first 2yrs of the baby's life. We will provide the most nutritious foods available, a weekly housekeeper, & childcare — all FREE of cost. Parents & babies MATTER & reducing stress is vital!"

Two roads diverged in the snowy wood & I—
I took neither because I am not a bunny & do not fit under the bushes,
And that has made all the difference.

Hey crafty community, where do you get quality coloring books? Shopping for elementary-aged kiddos & the amount of 💩 ai-generated coloring books on 💩 thin paper is depressing. Michael's in-store selection was awful & I won't support 🎯, WMart, or the 'zon. There's gotta be something else!

It's officially Baking Season & I am HERE FOR IT. Woke up to snow & started raspberry pretzel salad for the requisite meal, made a birthday cake to frost tomorrow, started a pie with homemade crust for Friday, started mint bars per request, & fed the sourdough starter for this weekend. 🧑🏼‍🍳🪄🥧

Anne Frank & Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. were born in 1929. Viola Fletcher, who just died this week, was already 15 when they were born.

But while we were just with Ms. Fletcher days ago, Anne Frank & Dr King are portrayed as ancient history.

Remember, "The past is never dead. It's not even past.”

Hello to all the MN transplants finding out about snow today! 🌨️ If you haven't mastered layering clothes & outerwear, it's time to experiment before winter really hits. Start looking for:

• thick+warm socks
• grippy+warm+waterproof boots
• waterproof coat/jacket
• warm mittens
• warm hat

What's fun about perimenopause is that it feels the same as the somatic experience of anxiety. Mentally I'm good, but physically I'm sweaty & drained. It took so long for me to actually feel those feelings in my body that those feelings NOT being anxiety now really sucks. 🫠
