I think just being acceptable at face value is enough for people to suspend disbelief. Also, inherently the red barrel thing is more engaging because the value of it only exists if the player actually takes advantage of it vs yellow paint guide which the player doesn’t earn it is just given to them.

I think the difference here is that a red barrel to signify that what it contains is dangerous is something that “makes sense” and could happen in real life. Yellow paint on a series of footholds and handholds on a cliff side has no chance of happening IRL.

Even as someone who really liked FF16, it is frustrating/confusing how it just completely abandons traditional JRPG mechanics. It’s like they made a bet 10+ years ago that traditional JRPG would be a dead genre and were wrong. Instead others are filling this huge FF shaped hole in the JRPG market.

I was close to the platinum myself but I didn’t really like those timer-based combat challenges that you have to do to get it. There’s a chance maybe one day I go back to do them.

Yeah I was pulling my hair out trying to win against the Lapras ex expert level event battle. The ai doesn’t even bother with Lapras ex, and why should it? Just set up 2 Starmie ex and call it a day.

I’d recommend something like Life is Strange or The Walking Dead. Perfectly bridges the gap between TV/movies and games.

I get it, people are tired of live service. But this post is kinda nonsense. 3 of these are just cancelled games (plenty of non-GaaS games get cancelled too). Funny to mention Heartland as if Division franchise hasn’t been a major success overall. It’s a risky genre but there are many successes too.
