This year's Welsh building, placed on our Top 10 Endangered Building list in May: the former Marine Hotel, Penarth. Grade II, prob. by Samuel Dobson, c.1865. Vacant since the 1980s, the Marine Hotel has steadily decayed; restoration now depends on a sympathetic, well-funded new owner. bit.ly/4pkg2nt

This matters to the Victorian Society because the National Lottery Heritage Fund backed us to recruit a Membership Manager and Fundraising Manager to support our work campaigning for Victorian & Edwardian buildings.
Thank you to all the players for making this possible.

Local people have run a petition, they and we have met with the Council urging them to expedite the sensitive, appropriate reuse for what was last the Kennington Boys' School.

Post-war the building returned to schooling south Londoners, as it had done for over a century, and is a key feature of the Minet Conservation Area. Water ingression continues, and this Grade II heritage building more than ever needs urgent restoration.
