We had a fun time commentating on the moods of the various people in the paintings.
The Duke of Orleans, brother of Louis XIV. This is called “The Plowing lesson” but given the young man’s fancy silk clothes, white trousers and socks, and fancy dress shoes, I doubt he’s actually going to be a plowman. The plowman giving the lesson is barefoot and wearing farmer’s clothes. Looking on is what I assume is the young man’s father, mother, and younger sibling, all clearly here for fashion, not to work. A view of the gallery with several large paintings in gold frames. One wall to the right is wine red, while the other is grey. In the center of the room is a long simple grey bench with a grey padded cushion on top. Another view of the gallery with 18th century portraits on the walls of various sizes. The one facing the camera is on a red accent wall and features a young g woman in a pale blue silk dress and a large hat with white ostrich feathers. The Musée de Beaux Arts in Bordeaux reminded me of some thing I used to love.

Three steps lead up to the doorway arch. In front stands my mother, an 85 year old white woman with grey hair wearing a blue puffer coat and grey pants with black boots. She’s smiling, holding a teal walking cane, and her right arm is in a blue sling. The front door handles to enter the museum are shaped like two coiled bronze serpents affixed with heads pointing up on dark metal plates on glass doors.

The sun is rising. Fog still lingers on the margins of forests and fields and over the rivers and streams we pass. Today is going to be warm for December (15°) and sunny.

The Christmassing has begun! I have more to do, but it’s starting well. I packed a few ornaments in our luggage when we came to France, and they’ve been waiting for their moment all this time.
A seven foot tall artificial tree stands in a corner of our living room A gold star adorns the top, and white lights wind their way upward, while red and gold balls and a few sentimental ornaments hang from the boughs. Cabinet number one is in! I had to get help from our handyman to complete it because it’s SUPER heavy, but I love it! He’s buying us a magnetic catch and a black knob for the door. A breadbox is on its way to sit on top and hold all the bread.

This weekend, the cooktop and cabinet go in. 🎉

Done! I just kept singing to myself, “It doesn’t have to be perfect. I don’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t need to be perfect. It just has to be done.” And so it is.

Now it’s time for wine and pizza.
New gray pvc peel and stick planks are down on the floor in the same bathroom, on the left side of the room by the electric towel warmer and the sink, running the long way across the room. The gray pvc flooring is down on the right side of the room as well, fitted around the toilet and the pipe in the corner.

Today, mom and I are starting the flooring job in my tiny upstairs toilet room. So far, we have moved everything out, swept, vacuumed, and mopped. As soon as that’s dry, we’ll be laying this flooring down. It’s a very small room, so hopefully we can finish the job today!

The sewer drain is visible in the corner with a vent pipe running up to the ceiling. In the future, I hope to redo this room with a shower in this corner or perhaps a floor to ceiling storage cabinet.

The top looks pretty. Not sure about the bottom crust, but the rest is okay, and I’m sure the apple filling is cooked.

This morning, I’m living in Silent Hill.
From inside a fenced garden yellow brick patio, there’s a view of a few tangled rose bushes and some overgrown sage plants next to a black metal fence. Outside the fence is a black asphalt crossroad in a tree-lined residential neighborhood. Heavy fog blankets the area, reducing visibility so that only two or three houses are discernible and the rest disappear.

Le frigo est arrivé!
A new two-door steel-front refrigerator with a bottom freezer stands in the kitchen on top of tan tiles. The doors are closed. A pale green wall is behind the fridge, and next to it is a white electric radiator affixed to the wall. The refrigerator and freezer doors are now open to the right, displaying empty shelves, awaiting all our food once the fridge is plugged in and the interior is at the correct temperature.

I forgot to post the picture of my momma’s birthday flowers. We don’t have a flower vase, so for now they’re in a measuring pitcher.

Mona doesn’t mind me being sick because it means more cuddle time in the bed. Eventually, I’ll need to take her for a walk around the neighborhood. But for now, this is all she wants or needs. She’s keeping me safe and staying close.

However, this afternoon while Mona is at the groomers, I’m taking a little time to myself at the local coffee shop for a latte and a slice of red velvet cake.

Our handyman brought a second apple tree, red this time, and together we planted the apples and the plum tree and moved the pomegranate trees to a better location. Next year, the garden is truly going to be lovely!

We also reassembled two tables my father built and which I flat packed to France.
