Forgive the shameless promo you're about to witness, have done a number recent SLEAZOIDS episodes with some people who gravitated over here (and that we never properly shared here) that we wanted to shoutout. So bear with me!
An opportunity to share one of my favorite original lobby cards that I own!!! Robert Mitchum drunkenly watching Bobby Orr and going “what a future he’s got, huh?” not knowing what’s about to happen to him makes me tear up.

For free listeners, we’ll be back next week with a special guest talking about black female-led crime-thrillers: COFFY (1973) and SET IT OFF (1996), until then here’s a brief teaser for this bonus episode: soundcloud.com/sleazoids/40...

🕵️‍♂️ 406 - OUT OF THE PAST (1947) + FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE (1973) 🕵️‍♂️

This week we discussed Robert Mitchum's long face and sad, weary eyes in Tourneur's classic, tragic prototypical 40s film noir and Yates' blunt, unglamourous Boston bank-robbing 70s neo-noir.

NOIRVEMBER is upon us, and we were lucky enough to have
@meganabbott.bsky.social on to talk about two of her favs: Edgar G. Ulmer's dirty, depressed, intensely psychologically subjective murderous hitchhiking noir and Val Lewton/Mark Robson's bleak, satanic Gothic-horror conspiracy-mystery noir.
🕵️‍♂️ 405 - DETOUR (1945) + THE 7TH VICTIM (1943) ft.
@meganabbott.bsky.social 🕵️‍♂️

This week we kicked off Noirvember with two of the most dreamlike, expressionist & nihilistic 40s B-noirs.

Final spooky episode of the year is a big one on some of our favorite guys: Boris Karloff, James Whale, Terence Fisher, Peter Cushing, and Christopher Lee.
🎃 404 - FRANKENSTEIN (1931) + CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957) 👻

This week we discussed two adaptations of Mary Shelley in different eras of Gothic, sci-fi horror: the iconic pre-Code Universal Monsters take in 1931 and the more graphic & lurid 1957 Hammer Horror update

This week we had @slimyswampghost.bsky.social back on the pod to discuss a pair of disgusting 1980s Video Nasty slashers that are at times also relaxing, slow-burn remote island travelogues. Pretty hard to scrub the image of George Eastman tearing a fetus out of the womb & chowing down on it after.

Rewatched Army of Darkness last night. Raimi’s breathlessly manic kineticism should be exhausting even at 80m but man… the slapstick gags, cartoon mugging, stop-motion action craft and willingness to just move on from/blow up anything on screen on a dime. What a filmmaker.

The spooky season is about throwing on an Italian horror film and sitting through some misogynistic American guy driving around Rome doing bozo detective shit for like 95% of the runtime to get to the 5% of gruesome slasher kills you know are coming when the groovy baseline hits.
