Sounds like you're talking about teachers but we still have teachers graduating. I'd put my money on there are people in the pipeline they just have to get around those currently holding the position and the "it's their turn" crowd.

Such a funny set of facts they care about. Not what was the cause of historical periods but what are a few facts about an historical event.

I would call that technically correct but devoid of context.

I think mRNA is such a paradigm shifting technology it will be used elsewhere. It cuts development and deployment time of vaccines plus I think it is cheaper to produce.

at most. My guess is the cost per inference is low since GPT 4 is much bigger than the ollama 405b model.

Is it? Yes it takes a lot of power to train but you train once and infer over and over.

It took 50 gigawatt hours to train gpt 4 and it takes 3000 joules (about 1 watt hour) to infer on a smaller model. The break even point would be 50 billion queries

We did the math on AI’s energy footprint. Here’s the story you haven’t heard.
The emissions from individual AI text, image, and video queries seem small—until you add up what the industry isn’t tracking and consider where it’s heading next.

(im guessing) Her problem would then have been being told there was a drastic cut (I don't have the numbers but you never ask a question you don't know the answer to) so I'm guessing those pauses were her trying to wiggle out of that line of questioning.

AI is the tech world's introduction to unit costs. Marginal cost to provide a ride on Uber, near zero. Marginal cost to provide an AI query, much more. (A single AI query is probably pretty cheap but how many are needed for something useful?)
