So on top of the typical religious guilt, he's also got this deep seated guilt over the fact that he 'forgot' his own beliefs.

He tries to pray, he tries to do the things he would have done as a priest to feel better, but it doesn't feel right without knowing who it is all for.

Last year I was a spectator but I am itching to participate this year again!
