An excerpt from an article on the history of #RPGSEA. SO, HOW'S THIS GOING TO GO? The first part of this History will go into the Philippine tabletop games scene from 2015-2019, because I am literally from the Philippines, and because one of the two most egregious figures from the Before Times is Filipino. Other #RPGSEA folks who are not [REDACTED], the Sex Pest from Malaysia, can read this later and get all well ackshually about the importance of your scene if they want. Hell, go ahead and write your own #RPGSEA history, I’m not your Auntie. The second part is going to cover 2019-2021. A whole lot of things happened here: Google Plus dying and the renaissance of #RPGSEA in tandem with Twitter’s rise for ttrpgs, SWORDDREAM, more notes about Tobie Abad, Asians Represent, Session Zero, Big Bad Con 2019 and its early POC initiatives, the Dreamseas Discord server, Ben Chong being outed as an abuser, and… you know, COVID-19 and how a global pandemic has the propensity to fuck things up. The third part is going to go into 2021-2024. This is where we’ll talk about Session Zero Online, how the Session Zero discord turned into the Session Zero Playtest server, how it was for me (and a few others) being #RPGSEA talent in the white digital ocean of North American voices, the Our Shores Kickstarter under Sandy Pug Games, the role Big Bad Con, Metatopia, the Gauntlet, and other spaces played in highlighting #RPGSEA talent, Across RPGSEA, and other things. The last part is going to be my retrospective given everything. We’ll talk some community, some ideas on “belonging”, and what the future of #RPGSEA might look like.

Yes, I know FF14 has an official ttrpg. The one I am planning to make will have a simpler dice system, does NOT follow the "canon" of the game, and will have mechanics for limit breaks and story prompts specific to job/origin city/race.

Profiles are going to have Damage, Tendencies, Look, Chains, and Gambits.

This is a “shadow self” if we’re to get psychological about it, representative of the more raw and fragile things that make us human. Giving into your Damage is a very mortal thing to do, for better or for worse. TENDENCIES reflect the things your Hunter is most likely to do in a situation. These always involve some form of personal gain or gratification, at the cost of something else: your Blade’s safety or success, a critical lead, an important opportunity, a relationship. LOOK is a collection of descriptors that suit the way you envision your Hunter. They are details that other people in the Story might pick up on when they meet your Hunter for the first time. CHAINS are some ties you have to your Blade and beyond. They are defined by something you’ve done in the past, and decisions you made that you cannot walk away from. GAMBITS are moves your Hunter can make because they fit this Profile. These Gambits are available at all times, and some Gambits can be found across all Profiles. This is deliberate.
