The valuation of this car is more than £500k higher than its recent rebuild cost. So the “ship of Theseus” problem has apparently been solved.

Apparently this process starts with a “Potential Asteroid Impact Notification”, the acronym for which would be PAIN.

What a generous, compassionate project and book @horatioclare.bsky.social. I hope it helps raise awareness of (and funds for) the fine humanitarian work done by some of the institutions discussed, such as the RNLI.

Here's another "cooling" image which I hope might help during this spell of hot weather. This is "Alpine Love" by John Cooper from 1930. It is in the collection at Manchester City Art Gallery. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup

Having just spent a few days with friends a little further down the coast in Rock, this view of "Appledore" by John Cooper from 1935 now seems remarkably "familiar" to me because of the similarity of terrain & the estuary. #JohnCooper #Appledore #EastLondonGroup #Devon

A thought prompted by a detail in this nice memoir: imagine signing up for “philosophy club” with a half-dozen schoolmates, and two of them being Joseph Raz and Peter Hacker.
John Finnis's memoir of Joseph Raz has been published at the British Academy. A fitting tribute from a friend for over 50 years.

This is great fun from John Fuller, although anyone who has felt intimidated by the intellectual pyrotechnics in his poetry may smile at the irony...

Hearing that Mr. Turner was much troubled at what I do in the office, and do give ill words to Sir W. Pen and others of me, I am much troubled in my mind, and so went to bed; not that I fear him at all, but the natural aptness I have to be troubled at any thing that crosses me.
