You know how most of the time when you read your own marginalia, it’s cringe? I laughed with, not at, Past Jessica on this one:

Just finished American Midnight and The Dismembered (kind of like Frankenstein but set in England and with more body horror) and now reading Katabasis which is delightful

So I’m on Ch 14 of The Woman in white and so far it’s a WWF-style, barn-burning, filth-reading takedown of patriarchy and I recommend it.

I couldn’t find an audiobook version in my libraries but it’s free on Audible; I’m reading this version:

Hi, I'm Gary Palmer. As your Congressman for Alabama's Sixth Congressional District, I wanted to provide you with an update on what's happening during the current government shutdown. The government has now been shut down for 22 days. On September 19, House Republicans voted for a Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the government open through November 21 to give the House and Senate appropriators more time to finish their work on the appropriations bills. The House CR was transmitted to the Senate where Senator Schumer immediately initiated a filibuster to block it from getting to the Senate floor for a vote. Breaking the filibuster will take 60 votes, which means seven Democrats will have to join all the Senate Republicans. The Senate Democrats have now blocked the reopening of the government 12 times. The liberals are holding the government hostage in exchange for their radical wish list. This list could include an additional $1.5 trillion in government spending and taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants.
