I was wondering why this game, which seemed cute and had some good buzz like three days ago, was sitting at 'mixed' and... well.
My Wife Threw Out My Card Collection (So I bought a dump to find them all) on Steam. Reviews; mixed. Top voted review on Steam: There's something real fishy going on here, and it's not just the fishing-themed game coming after this one. UPDATE: The developer's official Discord profile (Elsif) has confirmed that they DID use generative AI to make the music in the game. They also used the classic AI-bro excuse that typing all the prompts and cleaning up the generated audio was still super hard (despite, y'know, automating the actual content part of the content creation process). It is now formally confirmed the AI-sounding music in the game sounds like that because it's AI generated. What's worse, the developer did NOT disclose this on Steam and are intentionally NOT updating the game's description to reflect that AI disclosure under the paper-thin excuse they are "going through bug-reports and fixing issues." So not only is the dev an AI bro who uses the excuses like "even if I DO use AI, AI is creative work too," they are intentionally not doing the disclosure Steam REQUIRES until AFTER the bulk of people buy this due to the sale/attention it is getting online. Setting aside the AI usage: the game's bland. I see the framework of something good that isn't just streamer-bait (games made to only be interesting for the hour or so a streamer will show it off). And yet, an hour in, I'd finished the first trash pile and got six cards for my trouble. Yet also was nearly halfway done buying upgrades to my character. With the way scaling works for upgrades, it's clear I could max out my character by the end of the second or third trash pile and still have a ton of incredibly repetitive gameplay left to "finish" the game. The idea is not bad. It plays like every other first person asset-flip "simulator" game you've played, but with slightly more polish (the problem is some of that polish like the music and the hand-draw card art could be non-disclosed generative AI).
