They’re leveraging her celebrity for engagement & it’s meant to create more chaos, disruption, & division. There doesn’t even have to be rhyme or reason to it. These are all Russian developed disinfo tactics that have been mainstreamed. It’s disheartening that we’re so (social) media illiterate.

Another update: I've come across videos about the hat she has on the website. It says "Leave it with me, I protect the family." That's a quote from her song Father Figure. Some are trying to link it to a "secret" christian fundamentalist network called The Fellowship. Netflix doc circa 2016.

(I used to be mutuals with KCL but I blocked her. Commenters were asking if any historians or experts weighed in and she answered "I am the expert and I say." She is either seeing nazis everywhere which is a problem, or this is marketing which is even worse.)

8) It's worth noting that no historians or scholars of white supremacy ideology have confirmed their conspiracy theories. The only "scholar" is Knitting Cult Lady, who is not a scholar of either and is publishing a book about cults that also addresses fandoms.

7) Most of the people who started this nonsense have since had to private their social media accounts, some have admitted they were making these videos knowing it would go viral and they would make money.

6) The conspiracy theorists have been very racist and antisemitic to Black, Latina, and Jewish women who have been saying "that's not racist" or "that's not a hate symbol."

5) They also believe that the necklace was removed from the website over their conspiracy theories instead of being sold out. All other sold out merch has also been removed from the website.

4) With most of the stuff about the necklace debunked, we are left to believe that the picture of the listing itself is a signal. Yep, the most famous pop star in the world is sending secret messages to Nazis using a picture of a $35 necklace on her website. That's a totally normal thing to believe.

3) The necklace being listed as $35 is a dog whistle referencing the 1935 Nuremberg laws. This is an insane fabrication. The ADL has a database of hate symbols and numbers anyone can reference.

1) There is belief the website listed the necklace as "lightening bolt." It never did. 2) Someone pulled the Midnights album, which when you put 4 variants together makes a clock on the back. The claim is flipping the clock over makes the fronts into a swastika. It doesn't.

Update: people are now getting the necklaces and it turns out there are 12 lightning bolts, not 8. There are not 14 links between each bolt. People are doubling down on the charm being an iron cross, it still isn't. There are pivots to new conspiracy theories about Nazi symbolism though.

Last thing... if you're not chronically online and don't even know there is discourse around Taylor Swift, this album, or now this necklace, then hear that people on the left think she's a nazi, they think you sound as crazy as MAGA. How is that helpful?

Additionally, they're rewarded with engagement and dollars for creating the most polarizing content possible on Tiktok. That's not great either! John Aldean Jr broke out of jail during the Salem witch trials leaving a note that said "i'll return when you have regained your use of reason." It applies

And I'm not really worried about her, I'm concerned about what this does to society. We've gone from "I don't like her and think her album is shitty" to "she's a nazi." If people are just casually accusing people they don't like of being nazis, that's not a good thing for all of us.

I'm of the opinion that if Taylor Swift wanted to be a nazi, she would just be a nazi. Kind of like Kanye West. She has a billion dollars, she would just do whatever the fuck she wants to do. This is obviously some sort of campaign to attempt to ruin her reputation and reduce her fanbase.
