The way many of my fellow Christians recite that verse and then turn around and support genocide, deportations, policing people’s bodies, the carceral state, banning gender-affirming care… I just don’t get it. Jesus’s love is RADICAL, and you(rs) should be, too. (2/2)

Sorry, adding something: even definition 1 is kinda vague. Sometimes that involves the government continuing to own and/or mandate and/or even fund the agency, but they contract out the administration of the agency, or the provision of services, etc., to some private company.

when we engage in conversations around high-stakes, high-emotion issues (political or otherwise), we need to do better at carefully, thoughtfully, precisely, and explicitly defining our terms in order to have actual, topically focused, productive discussions.

My point overall is NOT to defend Trump’s policies, which will almost certainly not be the kind of privatization preferred by those skeptical of mono-/oligopoly, but rather to say to everyone (including myself and not meant to be just @ OP), that …

So one could have a transference of ownership of a public good from government hands to those of the public more broadly in an act of “publicization,” perhaps via co-ops and/or the general abolition of hierarchy, and yet some might still view that as “privatization.”

Is government really “public” when its overall primary decision-makers and benefactors are those with significant political and economic connections/privilege? Many anarchists argue that collective ownership is both possible and made MORE possible in the state’s absence.

6) Doing (4) but by intentionally cutting the agency’s budget to artificially weaken the agency’s services, maybe even in addition to (3)

There’s also a point to make about what “private” and “public” mean.

4) Keeping the existing agency while allowing for more private competitors

5) Doing (4) but specifically by distributing the agency’s budget to individual citizens to allow them the freedom to take that public money either back to the gov agency or to a private competitor

2) Getting rid of the government agency and subsequently allowing for full, unfettered, private competition in the industry

3) Doing (2) but, as usual, insulating and subsidizing the big guy(s), resulting in monopoly/oligopoly

Any more updates on Tim Melia? SKC fan here, Melia is one of my favorite-ever players, still shocked SKC let him go after naming him the defensive player of the season this year, I just really hope he stays in the game and lands a decent starting job.

I think that’s partially a function of age. Older people tend to be more conservative and tend to be more likely to watch the news on the TV, whereas younger, more progressive folks tend to get their news from social media. Even then, that is still a shockingly wide disparity.

And what a weak line it is. Like, Rand, you’re saying you’re willing to have Trump use a militarized police state to do the same thing? You’re just mad at the fact that the suits are camo green instead of black and blue? You should oppose it altogether, Mr. Small Government. Lol
