A comb-jellyfish, or Ctenophore, was pushed up against the shore near UCSB by winds one season when all sorts of open-ocean organisms got stranded. This one has small tear near the comb-plates. Ctenophores can coordinate their swimming in ways that jellyfish cannot.

Spoils from the foreshore yesterday. Fossil with pecten, scallop-like shell embedded in flint. Also some semi precious rocks - turquoise or howlite? and glorious purple quartz of some sort, possibly amethyst or fluorite. A few marbles & evidence of a local safecracker at work (it was full of sand.)
