I garden, I have chickens, I spend a lot of time outside. A long time ago I was a reporter.
Is this just what it seems to be? Or is there a background of dispute between the Wake DA's office and the NCHP?

Thank you for taking the time to reply seriously and clarify. I'm going to delete my original post because I don't want my misunderstanding to spread.

Glad to hear that perspective/intent. I think the disclaimer counterintuitively is what led me to see the comment as derogatory, as hamfisted alert writing reflects the local culture but isn't indicative of irresponsible gun use/culture.

Where do you think I'm posting from?

My first reaction was that you probably didn't have much cultural context, but didn't intend to be offensive. But when I saw that the next thing you did was repost someone mocking the message, I had a much harder time reading your initial post with charity.

In the same spirit of generosity then, let me share that I grew up in a place where the first day of hunting season was a public holiday. When I read local media about the shooting, the second story on the front page was about the upcoming opening day.

It looks like someone is trying to get a Virginia version of that map going, but so far without luck. www.inaturalist.org/projects/arm...

It'd be great if Va. had something like the N.C. Armadillo Project. [WARNING: many of the pics are of (bloody) roadkill.]
Most sightings are clustered between Asheville and the Georgia border, but the project has a great map, and scattered reports went nearly to the Albemarle Sound in the last year.
