Also, the STORY sections and OPEN sections are often repaired of their usual issues, so the Stories feel open enough and the Open experiences feel full enough.

But KCD2 gives both your restricted chapters and your open chapters such rich context that they land naturally and feed one another. I don't think this balance has ever been so smartly managed in a big open-world RPG. Its freedom isn't forced onto the world, it grows naturally from narrative design.

It's a game that moves between scripted half-cinematic triple-A "story gameplay" and more genuine open worlds quite seamlessly. The problem in many games is that the cinematic sections feel restrictive and the open sections feel empty. This is the problem with Red Dead, to be totally honest.

I think it's super rare! There are plenty of walking sims too, but I'm specifically thinking about games with lots of systems that STILL aren't focused on killing
