Working on DOOM: The Dark Ages

Long before we defined the look, feel, and story for Dark Ages, were were given a few weeks of time on 'blue sky' for the project. We were given the freedom to explore our ideas in the DOOM universe. Did not hit the final tone, but it was fun!

Before touching 3D or photoshop for this task, I did a series of pen-only drawings (no erasing!) for the Super Shotgun in DOOM: The Dark Ages!

I knew it would need to be lever action + we wanted a flint-lock weapon so it was a lot of creative problem-solving early on.

Grey tone added later.

Way Back Wednesday with a flame thrower designed to be carried by a heavy enemy! From Insomniac's FUSE (2013) video game!

You can see the project's overall visual style changed throughout development. Designed over a period of time, I went back to iterate each time we made a significant shift.

"Collectors" from a cancelled project (2013)

`large 'Collectors' were accidentally released onto the planet's surface, starting a terraforming process. Simultaneously collecting energy to return to the colony ships in orbit.`

Bonus little scale guy with sword and scarf from a lander.

Say hello to a Mole Men Tank from 2010!

He's 14 years old and still just trying to do his best.

Here's a few more from my time on R&C:ACiT at Insomniac!

A few planets for the space section, a nice little set piece for Tombli Outpost level, a cinematic keyframe painted over a Dr Nefarious 3D model, and the most importantly, his madness crayon drawings! Had fun making a new brush for that one!

In late October hit a 15th anniversary of the release of the first game I had the opportunity to work on in the industry!

As a long time fan of the franchise and Insomniac, it was really a dream come true! Here is some concept design work from Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time (2009) !

More 'day one' art: Some personal work spanning some inspirations and general vibe.

In recent years; starting with Blender and illustrating the rest in photoshop.

I like vehicles that could be toys if not already, and blue skies (heh) .

I think I'll do a few more 'day one' posts!

In addition to environment concept design, I've had the good fortune to contribute various weapon designs to projects over the years!

I really enjoy hard surface design and balancing functionality with something visually striking!

Hello Everyone; new friends and old!

I figured I'd make a first post and introduce myself! I've been working full-time in video games doing concept design for over 15 years. The last decade + at id Software! I've contributed to 15 titles and one animated tv show as an intern!

Cheers ~
