#medlibs leadership should be ashamed of thinking that offering such abysmal salaries is ok. DO BETTER.

This comment brought to you by peeping a recent job posting and doing math. $60-88K for 5-7 experience with specialized skill set (also 2nd MS preferred) in a major US city in this economy? GTFOH

Screening a study on food intake that drops this bit: "All of the women were asked to scrape and rinse all dishes, glassware, and utensils with water and to consume the rinsing to ensure complete intake of provided foods." 🤢🤮 I wish I could exclude the study based on this alone.

For #medlibs nerds like me interested in MeSH, an interesting article in JMIR Formative Research: "Representation of Medical Concepts in Emojis Using Medical Subject Headings to Identify Gaps and Opportunities: Cross-Sectional Analysis"

Of potential interest to #medlibs and #EvidenceSynthesis / #SystematicReview folks, Wiley has published a guide on using AI for researchers, authors, editors, and reviewers:

Your annual #medlibs Halloween reminder that "Chocolate"[Mesh] has only been in use since 2017. (OK, to be fair previous indexing is "Cacao"[Mesh] 1963-2016, but STILL.)
Also, "Spirit Possession"[Mesh] is a thing, with only 28 results in PubMed, "Spirit Possession"[tiab] gets 144 results.

Today's #medlibs snort-at-the-article-title moment:

"Ketones: metabolism's ugly duckling" (PMID 14604265) followed closely by "Exercise: the ugly duckling of diabetes treatment?" (PMID 41151796)

These are my emotional support tabs. Please be kind.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the many tabs I need to keep open,
Courage to close the tabs I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

It may no longer be Indigenous Peoples' Day but this is when and where your support truly matters. We have several Native communities devastated by flooding, families have literally lost everything.

maman has switched out the kale for arugula in the papa's breakfast bowl and it is nowhere near what it was. I am so disappointed.

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this, so here's a quick thread, with some curated #medlibs sources
This press release is wild. Food (in)security is an ongoing issue in the US, whether the govt thinks it is or not. Go grab the past ones while you can: www.ers.usda.gov/publications...

Well. That's not a good sign.
Only found out about this today (we use it for DOCLINE delivery): "The NNLM will end support for delivery.nnlm.gov on Friday, December 19th 2025. The document delivery site will no longer be available after that date, and it will not be replaced with a similar service." #MedLibs

🧵I couldn't quite make myself look at the new MAHA report, so I settled for today's opinion piece in the Washington Post: wapo.st/4mf4Ma7

As a #medlibs and #SystematicReview / #EvidenceSynthesis person, I of course had a look at the links/citations they include. Let's go over them, shall we?

making stigmatizing comments about health hurts people who aren't trump. there's your reason to stop
Some of you guys need to learn that you can both be a loud hater of Donald Trump and not stigmatize health stuff. It can be done, I promise.

Good grief #PubMed is being temperamental this morning. It's slower than molasses, giving server errors, and generally being a pain. Do not like (for many, many reasons) #medlibs

There's is something so unnerving and unreal when you realize (and accept) that you are "the adult in the room" with a large group of experts, all of them looking to you as the authority and the one who can answer all the questions. Like how did that even happen?!
August 22, 2025 at 3:17 PM
Oh no! #PubMed is giving an error for anything tagged [tiab] #medlibs Just perfect for a Monday.

And yes I tried many, many things before panicking (and writing the help desk). [tw] works, [all] works, [mh] and other tags seem okay - [tiab] is borked, even if you try it through search builder.
