Long story short: in front of a horde of small and shocked children, our cat dies... but then starts meowing again.
All is well. He was just stuck up in our neighbor's tree. He's back and a bit rattled, but just peachy.

We had now corralled all the kids inside to try to call the kitties inside. In the commotion, Mr. Cheese vanishes into the tree. Owls go completely silent.

Then Mr. Cheese - in a fit of mad inspiration, decides he wants to know *all about*these big noisy chickens in the trees, and, in the ruckus, *climbs into the tree to hunt the murder birds.

As I mentioned - stop consolidation can absolutely be a great thing and good, but a blanket consolidation without regard to ground conditions can leave folks in the lurch. I'm not familiar enough with the cross-Chicago milieu to really make that judgement.
